* building on your experience with SaaS and cloud deployments changing SLA expectation and service risk, are you experiencing and providing better support outcomes when human intervention is required in your own services and those of your vendors? if inference and training costs rise, how will your budget for SLA violations and the risk of those exceptions be impacted?
* are you happier? do you feel more secure? do your employees and coworkers?
* how long would you like to remain in business with your current firm, and is an exit opportunity more attractive than company growth? has Al impacted this?
* are these questions unpleasant?
* would tabletopping this (as above) prior to making it your business plan have helped?
you don't have to tell me the answers to any of these. it might be better for you if you don't.
i've been asking these questions of pretty much everyone i've talked to for the last few years. when will the answers come for you?

back on my shit
a linkedin post by "marc r. uchniat":

there are some specific and personal questions which should be considered by people whose careers are currently tied to the "ai boom":

* as hyperscalers seek to amortize their existing and future investments, and you calibrate your expenditures, will both your utilization and E(x) value increase? at the current burn rate, in a circular financing structure, hyperscaler revenue is unsustainable without increased cost to customer and either sustained or increased utilization. will this benefit you?

* if you have already left or plan to leave the hyperscaler ecosystem but are still executing local models, what does your supply chain look like? you will need to maintain models trained or patched on new systems and deployment patterns, and to overcome precision loss in compaction and quantization as those models grow. the vendors providing your open weight models will likely introduce new or increase existing fees. will your current E(x) persist or rise, and how will you address this if it does not?

* current and future training requires extracting weights from extant and future human-generated digital content. code, documentation, whitepapers, and advertising materials which you have released, or will subsequently release, are, and will continue to be, ingested by this training process. how are you addressing your concerns about extant IP law, scraping overhead on infrastructure, professional services and licensing revenue (especially in OSS), and legal use and sale of derivative works, both your own and those of your vendors or competitors?

* if you have downsized or transitioned labor to accommodate LLM use, spending, and associated workflow changes, has your dependence upon hyperscaler training and AlaaS increased? how does this affect your future hiring and assessment process?

i posted on stinkedin
a linkedin post reading:

anthropic claiming "we can 'optimize' COBOL" leading to tanking IBM stock 10% is somehow the stupidest, most mind-bogglingly out of touch thing i've seen this whole hype cycle
sixty years of admittedly spaghettified cruft, but built by the most consistently well-reinforced engineers in the history of the industry, paid by the richest liquid companies in the industry, operating literally every financial and recordkeeping organization...
what are you going to optimize? really. what. the stock market is responding to speculation, sure, whatever. but does anyone think this is going to happen?
are you broken?
fucking market manipulation and wankery at scale
