Sunny watches two pigeons one of whom managed to take shelter from the rain just in time, the other was not as lucky.🩶🩶 #BirdOfTHeDay #Pigeon #Stunday #CatsOfBlueSky #Photography #ECK
A close-up, slightly high-angle shot captures my cat Sunny in kitchen , looking out through window at two pigeons perched on a white balcony railing with droplets on the underside. It's raining.
The back of Sunnys head fills the bottom right corner. Its black fur has faint brown undertones, and its pointed ears are alert, directed toward the birds outside.
On the white metal railing of the balcony, two grey feral pigeons are perched. The pigeon on the left is closer, positioned in profile facing away from the balcony , showing its dark grey feathers and light grey wings with black bars. The second pigeon sits further right, facing the opposite direction; towards the balcony. Thick, lush green trees fill the background in the yard behind the balcony.

This is a close-up portrait of a wet pigeon, capturing the upper half of its body against a soft, blurry green background. The pigeon is looking off to the left of the frame. Its head is covered in dark gray, charcoal-colored feathers. Because they are wet, the feathers look somewhat separated, sleek, and spiked rather than smooth.
Its beak is small, dark gray, and down-turned. Resting right on top of the upper beak is its cere—the fleshy swelling where the nostrils are. Instead of being its usual smooth white, this cere looks uniquely textured, bumpy, and has a peach or light orange tint.
Its round eye features a dark center pupil surrounded by a bright orange-red iris, making it stand out sharply against the dark gray feathers of its head.
Around its neck, the feathers are very wet and messy, sticking out in sharp, dark tufts and points. A faint hint of iridescent purple catches the light on the right side of its neck.
The lower half of the image shows its body, covered in layered, light-gray feathers. The feathers here appear drier than those on the head and neck, looking soft, curved, and neatly overlapping like scales. This close-up portrait captures a feral pigeon resting safely, showcasing its detailed plumage and striking features after narrowly escaping a downpour.
The pigeon's head and neck are covered in dense, dark grey and charcoal feathers. A faint, iridescent purple and green sheen is visible along its neck, catching the light despite the overcast atmosphere. The feathers appear mostly dry and neatly arranged, confirming it found shelter just in time.
A brilliant, ringed orange eye stands out sharply against its dark feathers, giving the bird an intense, alert expression as it looks downward.
Its dark, slightly curved beak features a prominent, whitish-grey cere at the base, characteristic of the species.
The background is a soft, completely blurred wash of muted greens and yellows, creating a smooth bokeh that isolates the bird as the sole focus of the image.

Octoberaster 'Early Blue' providing nectar; vital late-season energy for this Queen of Spain Fritillary butterfly.🧡 Just living is not enough, said the butterfly, one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower. -Hans Christian Andersen #FlyDay #ECK #photography
This scene blooms with a vibrant contrast of cool purples and fiery orange, creating a lively haven in the sunlight.
Dozens of daisy-like aster flowers crowd together, completely filling the space with rich lavender, violet, and amethyst tones.
Each flower features a bursting golden-yellow or deep coral-pink center that mimics a miniature radiant sun.
Beneath the dense layer of purple, a tangled web of deep emerald green stems and tiny leaves peeks through, grounding the bright colors.
Resting right in the center is a striking butterfly with wide-open, glowing amber and tangerine-orange wings.
The orange wings are heavily decorated with a dramatic leopard-like pattern of crisp, jet-black spots and dashes.
The insect's central body transitions into a soft, mossy olive-green hue, blending beautifully with the garden below.
The butterfly sits squarely on top of one of the aster flowers, its warm, glowing wings standing out brilliantly against the sea of cool purple petals.

Dahlias Work of wonder work of light. Bend to heaven dispel the night. 🧡 -Paul Schneiter This is a Dahlia flower, likely a variety 'Glory of Noordwijk'), which features prominent apricot and orange shaded blooms. #ColorADay #OrangeSun #Bloomscrolling #flowers #ECK
This close-up photo captures a magnificent, fully bloomed orange and yellow dahlia flower filling almost the entire frame against a soft, blurred gray background.
The flower is a large, dense, circular burst of numerous overlapping petals.
Outer petals spread wide and flat, while the inner petals tightly cluster and curl toward the center.
A dark, shadowy core rests at the very middle where the youngest petals meet.
Bright, warm golden-yellow dominates the bloom. Deep orange and soft amber tones blush across the ruffled inner petals.
Strong, direct sunlight hits from the upper right, casting sharp, dramatic shadows between the layers that give the flower an intense three-dimensional depth.

Be like the Roseroot: fierce in foundation, soft in petal, and sweet at heart. 💚 -Kyeren Regehr #RockinTuesday #succulent #lichen #forest #rocks #phtography #ECK
This vertical, high-angle outdoor shot focuses on a rugged rock face, highlighting the textures of stone and hardy vegetation.
The majority of the frame is filled with large, grey granite rocks. The stones are weathered, featuring sharp edges, deep cracks, and flat, sloping surfaces.
Large patches of pale, mint-green and white lichen cling to the surface of the rocks, giving them a mottled, textured appearance.
Small pockets of brown pine needles and forest debris are tucked into the crevices and flat ledges.
In the lower-left quadrant, a small, vibrant succulent Roseroot plant grows directly out of a narrow crack in the stone. It consists of several small rosettes of bright lime-green leaves. The plant provides a sharp, lively contrast against the dull grey and brown tones of the surrounding rock.
A cluster of lush green deciduous leaves on thin branches extends into the frame, from the surrounding forest.

When magpies trust you they communicate this by not flying away when you approach, or like these two by following me. Their playful curiosity make every encounter feel like a small gift of nature. 💙💙 #BirdOfTheDay #BestOfJune26 #Corvids #birds #photography #EastCoastKin
This photo captures two magpies perched atop a large, moss-covered rock in a sun-dappled outdoor setting. The two Eurasian Magpies, are the central focus.
The magpie on the left is positioned with its back to the camera, revealing long tail feathers and wings that shimmer with a brilliant, metallic cobalt blue and teal iridescence when caught by the sunlight.
The magpie on the right is standing in profile, looking toward the right edge of the frame. It hasa small kibble of cat food held in its beak.
The birds are standing on a weathered, light-grey boulder. Large patches of vibrant green moss and scattered brown pine needles cover its surface.
Behind the rock, the ground is a mix of dry earth, brown pine needles, and patches of green grass.
The scene is brightly lit by natural sunlight filtering through trees, creating a high-contrast environment with deep shadows and bright, warm highlights on the moss and the birds' feathers.

A guest arrived with borrowed grace, To claim the forest’s quiet space. Its vines of green and blooms of white, But beauty veiled a creeping snare, A breathless grasp upon the air. It drank the sun, it choked the soil, And turned the woodland to its spoil. #ImageAndVerse #forest #ECK #photography
This photo shows a dense patch of Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica), a common invasive vine.
The plant is a sprawling, twining vine that forms thick mats of greenery.
Dozens of smooth, egg-shaped (oval) leaves are visible. They are vibrant green on top and slightly paler underneath.
The leaves grow in "opposite" pairs along thin, flexible stems—meaning two leaves emerge from the exact same point on the vine, reaching out in opposite directions like airplane propellers.
A cluster of small, delicate white flowers is in focus at the lower left. Each flower has a long, thin tube that splits into narrow, curved petals, characteristic of honeysuckle. Some petals are tinged with a creamy yellow.
The rest of the frame is filled with lush, vibrant green leaves. These leaves are oval-shaped with smooth edges and a soft, matte texture.
A large, grey rock with a rough, pitted surface and patches of green moss occupies the right side of the image, partially covered by the trailing plant.

Gardening is the handiest excuse for being a philosopher. Nobody guesses, nobody accuses, nobody knows, but there you are, Plato in the peonies... 🩷 -Ray Bradbury #ColorADay #PinkMon #bloomscrolling #FlowerReport #EastCoastKin #photography
This is a close-up view of a single pink peony in full bloom, angled slightly to the right.
The flower has large, delicate, papery petals in a bright shade of magenta-pink. The petals are slightly ruffled at the edges and cup around the center.
In the heart of the flower is a dense, circular cluster of bright yellow stamens, resembling a fuzzy gold sunburst.
A thick, dark reddish-green stem supports the flower. The surrounding leaves are a deep, lush green with a pointed, slightly glossy appearance.
A small honeybee is perched on a petal in the lower right section of the flower.
The background is a soft, out-of-focus mix of leafy green foliage and dark, earthy ground, which makes the brilliant pink of the peony stand out sharply.
