@paema.ngo's atrocity alert for El Obeid in North Kordofan, with reporting from community members caught between RSF and SAF. www.paema.ngo/s/El-Obeid-A... #AllEyesOnSudan
A map of the Kordofans in Sudan, with text that reads "Since the fall of El Fasher, the Kordofan region has become the center of conflict in Sudan. Large numbers of civilians have sought shelter in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, dramatically increasing the population."Text reads "Civilians and civilian infrastructure have come under assault. One local responder told us, 'there is an unprecedented rise in the prices of foodstuffs, basic goods, drinking water, and fuel, which has weakened the purchasing power of families and led to an expansion of the circle of need among the population and the displaced.'"Text reads "RSF sustained use of drones has created a completely unpredictable situation for civilians. Residents that PAEMA spoke with said there is constant drone activity overhead. There is no way to predict when a drone will hit but life cannot stop, so people continue to go to work and to school. When a drone attacks, there is no warning or way to hide."CALLS TO ACTION FOR EL OBEID

Why does this sound so familiar...oh yes. #WhyThePeople
A comic with three panels. In the first panel, the narrator says "Fujimori strategically deployed state resources to win elections." President Fujimori of Peru stands behind a desk. A Fujimori CAMBIO campaign poster is on the wall. He tells two advisers "Its time for some social improvement programs. Let's build schools, repair roads, end cholera and, most important, put people back to work!" One adviser says "Sir, we didn't exactly give the ministries of education or health any money..." In the second panel, Fujimori says "Why get those bureaucrats involved? We'll pay for it all through the Ministry of the Presidency." In the third panel, Fujimori is sitting behind his desk, directing the advisers "And you make sure every brick and pill and paycheck has my name on it."

For the past 3 months, I've been working with the @paema.ngo team and our local partners in #Sudan, #DRC, #Burma, and the #Rohingya camps in Bangladesh to understand how US foreign aid cuts are impacting local orgs and communities. I'm pleased to share our report: www.paema.ngo/aid-impact-r... 1/5
The cover of a report titled "Please Do Not Be Part of Our Crisis: The impact of the U.S. foreign aid cuts on local organizations and communities." The title is accompanied by an image of two women in niqab using sewing machines.

I like that our book is relevant, and also I hate that our book is relevant...
Three comic panels. In the first, a box says "Oligarchs also have an easier time getting the government's ear." Two people in fancy clothes are talking to each other. One says "There were people walking on the freeway." The other says "It looked like one of those protests."
In the second panel, more people in fancy clothes are talking. One says "It should be illegal to block the roads like that. I'm sure they're upset, but they shouldn't be allowed to get in the way."
In the third panel, a man replies "Do you know how many of my trucks are delayed right now?" and a woman responds "You know what they say! Call your representative!"Two comics panels. In the first, all the people from the fancy party call out "Oh Congressman!" The congressman, who is also at the party, turns around and says "What can I do for you?"
In the second panel, a Chinese-American woman in normal clothes say "That's certainly not how it works for the rest of us." A young white woman in normal clothes adds "There's a big difference betwen writing an email and having your representative right in your living room."

They say only nerds dress up as Ranked Choice Voting for #Halloween, but they've never experienced the exquisite pleasure of watching children agonize over whether they prefer Twix, Reeses, or...blooood.
A piece of foam board set up like a ranked choice voting ballot. Voters can rank up to six of their favorite Halloween treats. The options are: Twix, blooood, Almond Joy, Skittles, child's soul, bat wings, Reeses, Snickers, candy corn, eye of newt, popcorn, unsupervised candy bowl, Whoppers, and Butterfinger.

Portland voters! Are you looking for a refresher on our new city government or how ranked choice voting will work? Start here! www.portland.gov/vote/documen...
A two panel comic titled "A Guide to Portland's Government Transition." In the first panel, a black woman posts a flier on a notice board, with the Portland City Hall in the background. In the second panel, an older white woman asks "Are we finally getting that new government we voted for?" The black woman responds, "We sure are!" They are looking at the flier she posted, which reads "Coming Soon! New Voting Districts. Ranked-Choice Voting. Improved City Government."

If this is accurate, northern Yemenis have just lost (or had disabled) one of their only aid and food access points. It took years to repair Hudaydah port after the Saudis bombed it. Both the Houthis and the IDF are, as usual, ensuring civilians take the brunt of the damage.

I've been thinking quite a lot about Adrienne Rich's poem "The School Among the Ruins," which more than anything else I've seen captures the depth of what is happening to children (and adults) in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, Yemen, and so many other places. digitalcommons.law.seattleu.edu/cgi/viewcont...
