Nothing makes Shepherd feel good the way soaring above the city does. The way the sun warms his face, the way the wind roars in his ears, the way the entirety of New York City shrinks down and becomes a personal ant farm only he can observe - it makes him feel alive. He wishes he could stay up here forever.

But he’s got a job to do.

“Target is directly below you.” Her voice says. Shepherd grins and dives, his aura of invincibility shielding him from the ravages of air resistance. He slams down onto the asphalt, white cape fluttering behind him as he poses down on one knee. Black crumbs of what was once part of the street are brushed off of his blue-and-gold costume as he stands up; just in time to see a black armored SUV barrelling down 96th Street. Shepherd shifts his footing and puts his hands out like a sumo wrestler facing down an opponent. The car tries to swerve, but telekinetic force keeps it locked into its current trajectory. It’d be easier to just use his powers to hold the SUV in place, but She prefers big, showy displays of power. She says it keeps the investors happy.

The SUV impacts against his hands- or rather, the permanent layer of telekinetic force that surrounds his body. What would be a bone-shattering impact feels more like a playful shove to Shepherd. The SUV is not so lucky, the front of the vehicle crumpling like a paper cup as it comes to a dead halt. The doors burst open and pour out a cadre of armed figures in all-black tactical gear. Each of them levels automatic rifles at Shepherd’s head and lets out a three round burst. Five bad guys, three shots each, fifteen bullets in all…

…and not even one manages to pierce his skin. They each squash into the invisible aura surrounding his body before plinking to the ground. Shepherd grins, flashing his canines at them.
