Datasets include numerical cognition, Flanker, and Stroop paradigms. We compare mixed-effects models with t-tests on averaged RTs and introduce a new metric adjusting power for coverage.

Unlike most previous RT simulation studies, we use a virtual-experiments strategy (Miller, 2024), subsampling from real human-generated RTs from large open datasets.

Results will be fully explorable through a Shiny App currently under development, allowing researchers to apply different cutoffs and exclusion criteria beyond those preregistered. Here’s how it looks now:

This project is among the first to use the preregistration template for simulation studies in psychology by Siepe et al. (@bsiepe.bsky.social, @fbartos.bsky.social ), now adopted as an official template by the Center for Open Science on OSF.

We are finishing simulations in Krakow at the Mathematical Cognition and Learning Lab for one of the largest simulation projects comparing mixed-effects models for RTs in Cognitive Science (~1.5M datasets; >7M models). Preregistration: osf.io/3s8cu

We’re excited to welcome @fdatri.bsky.social from the University of Trieste! 🇮🇹 He joins our lab on a study running 1.5 mln simulations using real experimental data, comparing methods for estimating & detecting effects in reaction-time experiments 📉 Link to preregistration below 👇
