I think I know what this post is getting at, but I’m genuinely confused. Surely the entire population of India, China and most African countries, not to mention the majority of most European countries, should be considered “indigenous.” Those populations add up to a lot more than 6%

It’s really not the same. I live in Michigan. Everybody – his supporters, his opponents whether R or D, the media, Abdul himself – calls him Abdul. I assume the point is that calling attention to his Arabic first name somehow “others” him. How would it be different if she called him “El Sayed?”

One thing I’ve noticed about primary races this year. Strong male Maine accents are apparently awesome but strong female Michigan accents are horrendous. This isn’t true, of course but it is something to see how ppl are dazzled by male American accents and turn around and mock female ones.
