Cyclamen hederafolium blooming massively along my walk! Such cheery blooms like pink and white butterflies hovering above the autumn leaves! Of course they will soon get their own green leaves, but for now I am enjoying their bombastic joy as they wake up from their summer sleep! 🌱 #PNWGardening

Ugni fruit! Native to the mountains of Chile! Sorta like eating cinnamon spice berries, sweet and fragrant! Nice evergreen bush that looks like our native Vaccinium ovatum. Great for W Oregon! 🌱 #PNWGardening

Well, several have said, at 74, you really need to practice more at taking selfies! After several attempts, trying various angles with shorter than average male arms, I finally believe that I have at least arrived at taking an acceptable garden selfie! What is your opinion BlueSky? 🌱 #PNWGardening

Just could not resist, plant sex is so popular! This flower has both genders in one set of genitals! See the circle of male stamens with a tiny bit of loose pollen, and there is the one proud female pistil with a sticky square tip, awaiting some pollen from a bumble bee or fly to brush across it! 🌱

Voila! Begonia genitals! On the right, the female flower. She has squiggly pistils. On the left is the male flower with pollen bearing stamens. Both flowers exist on the same plant. So, for Begonia babies (seeds) to happen, a pollinator needs to twiddle the stamens and get pollen on the pistols! SEX

My Amarcrinum is blooming blithely! It is the unlikely bigeneric cross of Amaryllis belladonna and Crinum americana! She is fragrantly flowering, and feminine in all her parts, not shy at all about showing off her tresses! So tempting to plant nerds and now Blooming at ThornHurst! Check it out!

It is the time of the year when our Hibiscus moscheutos plants bloom here in W Oregon! Their blooms are some of the largest in the genus Hibiscus, and range from red, pink and white! They enjoy a moist spot but prefer sun. Mine only get half day sun! 🌱 #PNWGardening

Our friends Roger and Sue had a problem with drainage and ugliness. By their faucet one can see a drain which exhausts water from their heating and A/C system. It puddles right next to their foundation, attracted weeds, and left this area unfinished looking. I brought some colored rounded gravel. 🌱

Next to my greenhouse I have a new spot to landscape! You can see, near my feet, the top of a stump. That was the old orange tree which I cut down this spring. Now the ground is ready. I will plant 3 coral colored hardy Fuchsias. They will need to play well with the strawberries! 🌱 #PNWGardening
