even ones that are dark can still have a spark of who they are bc everyone has layers. i would argue that their genuineness it a big part of what has made them so popular? we connect to that. we can't turn around and say it's all fake just to justify our narratives

Again probably hot take bc ppl might argue that the whole point of AU is to change it up, but I guess I always saw AU as placing the same ppl in different situations and roles and time periods and places, not switching up the core of who they are, like actors in different movies.

variations exist and ppl see them differently and of course they have changed over time, but I’m drawn to the fics bc I’m drawn to them, their dynamic. I’ve read fics that are beautifully written but also kind of wildly out of character? And I can appreciate the story but it’s not really the same
