a young kangaroo paw blossom, Los Angeles #Stunday #BNWmacro #MacroMonday #ClassicMono #flowers #FlowersOnSunday #photography #closeup #Art #nature #minimalism #MinimalMonday #bloomscrolling #thelittlethings #ECK #westcoastkin

a closeup of a blossom that does resemble a delicate kangaroo paw, with long, slender toes, except cream with magenta fur The background is in deep shadow, bringing out the foot. There’s a secondary interplay of deep green plant stems, with one slashing diagonally in front of the flower.

Garten Hunter: A Robber Fly ( #Asilidae ) in extreme detail. 🗡️🪰 These four images transition from a soft focus on morning dew to a sharp reveal of its powerful, spiny capture leg. #focusstacking (40 images) Fuji 55-200mm + #Raynox 250 Macro Adapter in my garden. #nature #robberfly #macroshot #insect

An extreme, direct close-up macro focusing sharply on the Robber Fly's massive compound eyes. The morning dew is mostly gone, revealing the incredibly dense and complex hexagonal pattern of its multi-faceted eyes. The surrounding dark hair and bristles are in sharp relief. Its legs are still in the frame, but the focus is clearly on the 'face'.

This shot reinforces the face-on perspective on the delicate purple flowers. The dew droplets covering the head and eyes are sharper, emphasizing the intricate hair and the complexity of its multi-faceted eyes. Its black and orange legs are held protectively around a tiny prey item.

An extreme macro photograph, face-on, of a Robber Fly covered in fine morning dew. The fly is perched on delicate light-purple flowers. Its huge, dark compound eyes are covered in sparkling water droplets. The focus is soft, highlighting the texture of the dew and the details of its hairy head. Its two orange and black front legs are crossed in front of its face. The background is a soft green and yellow blur.

No. Typically, they've clearly kept the feeder under close surveillance, zooming in to start gobbling within a minute of my finishing filling it, but scattering if I approach later. Recently I've noticed that they're much more casual. Yesterday I was shooting them in the open from about 8' away.

I appreciate what you've said. I respect someone saying, "I'm stumped. Here's what I've learned so far. Maybe somebody else can figure it out." But that's not what I saw. I saw waste. Even bug life has value. I started to write more, but hit against the Bluesky limits that do limit discourse.

faunalens.bsky.social @faunalens.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

One more note: Whoever did that should have identify each one of them. Each one of them had a life. Last night I killed a termite in our house. Last week, I smashed my foot down on a black widow. I didn't shoot either one of them. I'm no saint, but I'm pretty sure that that would have been obscene

faunalens.bsky.social @faunalens.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

So, identify them. Don't just kill them and walk away. I've killed plenty. I grew up hunting. But you don't just snuff somebody out and walk away with "unidentified." There has to be some purpose.

The horror is in pointlessly taking these lives and displaying these corpses as trophies. The more I shoot bugs, the more I see them as beings with lives of their own. We don't have a right to treat others this way. Killing is necessary sometimes. Carelessness is not.
