Love your children, people. Especially when it's hard, it makes a world of difference. Choose your child's face. Reach out to me if this is something you're facing.

Denny Matthews and Fred White were baseball to me growing up. Like Rogers Hornsby, during the winter, I'd stare out the window and wait for spring. Their voices meant the return of the game I loved. I don't even have a specific memory, just their constant companionship on that journey.

He seems great, but he'll have a weakness somewhere.

That was a clear-eyed article on what we stand to lose. And I think tried to be even-handed as possible. But it's just very difficult to comprehend what we might stand to gain as things change. We don't grasp very well which things that seem small now may be really important in 10, 20, or 100 years.

I see the same thing happening in my interaction with AI. There are definitely things I am losing, but I am also learning new skills that I never would have learned without AI.

I can't help but wonder if this is analogous to Socrates arguing written communication only had the appearance of wisdom, and that true thinking ability was being lost as spoken rhetorical skill and oral memory declined. There was truth in that, but also writing unlocked new forms of intelligence.

3. I'll read anything you write. There are so few voices in the AI space that I find helpful/sane. You and @alisongopnik.bsky.social are two of the best

Orbi slightly more control over details, eero slightly more user-friendly. But neither one is way ahead of the other in those departments

Mike Fast @fastballs.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
but another reason I left eero is because I didn't want to give Amazon/Bezos all my internet usage data. In terms of management software, I slightly prefer Orbi over eero, but honestly neither one gives me the level of detail/control I would really like.

I have Orbi RBR750 with two satellites for a similar setup. I know that's a few years old now, so not sure if that's still best. But we previously had an eero mesh, and it couldn't handle the 1 GB fiber speeds when we upgraded to that. I believe newer versions of eero can handle the speed.

Dolly Parton was what a Christian should be. She was at home with herself and she loved others and didn't judge. She cared for her neighbors, spoke up for truth, and gave a helping hand to many. The world knows the difference between Christians in name only and a true one like Dolly. Rest in peace.

Cruel laws harm real people. They harm all of us. We're all brothers and sisters; we're all God's children. We're responsible to take care of each other. Ezekiel 34:16

You're not an issue, you're a person. And people deserve to be valued highly and treated with kindness, honor, respect, empathy, support, etc.

Would you be willing to explain more what you mean by that? I take Moravec's "paradox" basically to mean that what we think of as simple vs hard for humans is a bad or even backwards gauge of what is simple vs hard for computers. Are you saying that's not true?

Canada didn't play on Canada Day, so one feels like maybe this disrespect to play on our national day was on purpose and not just negligent

If you go read Wikipedia on pitch types, you'll see similar quality to Claude here, which is probably no accident. Once upon a time I tried to correct some of the Wikipedia pitch type articles, but I eventually was too daunted and gave up.

I dunno, I've had good cakes. They usually involve butter in the cake and/or cream cheese in the frosting. Dry cakes wirh buttercream frosting are indeed true sadness. Chocolate cakes in particular are nearly impossible to do well or even adequately

Pie ahead of cake for sure. I always ask for pie for my birthday. And it's easier for run-of-the-mill pie to be good than your average cake. But I've had bad pie, too

For me, cakes are a type of food that is most dependent on the quality of the baker. 90% of cakes are basically poor forms of bread, but some cakes can be amazing. Being moist is a key but not the only key.

I have walked alongside both gay and trans people through the process of coming out. To see the peace in their own skin they had afterwards that they did not have before was something hard to argue with and not something I wanted them to lose.

I am thankful for the gay and trans people in my life, for what they have taught me, and for their friendship.

I thought it was wrong to be gay. That it was a choice or a lifestyle. Then I got to know gay people and realized I was wrong. I thought it was wrong to be trans. That it was a choice or a lifestyle. Then I got to know trans people and realized I was wrong.

The Pride movement's use of the rainbow is quite consistent with the rainbow as mentioned in the story of Noah in Genesis. The rainbow is said to be a sign that God has made a covenant between God's self and ALL FLESH on earth. It's the sign that God is for everyone. He won't destroy anyone.

Even if gay men have statistically different interest or ability in playing baseball, there's no way that results in zero instead of 200.

If it wasn't an issue, demographics suggests we'd have a couple hundred gay ballplayers. The fact that we have no players feeling safe enough to come out as gay says there is a pretty major issue.

I am grateful this month for all the LGBTQ fans of baseball (and for presumably some gay ballplayers as well). It should be a game where all are welcome. If Pride Month makes you want to say unkind things about LGBTQ people, please reconsider what that says about your own heart.
