Team Anyone But The Dodgers. (For the conspiracy minded out there, a Rays-Brewers World Series would make a lot of sense right before the players and owners argue this offseason about payroll discrepancies between teams...)

I will never understand how even the Elizabeth Warrens of the world get slammed as too extreme or a risk we can't afford, even as their political opposition sends all our tax dollars to funding ICE paramilitary squads and illegal war operations.

I can't overstate how much more I want to focus on tweaking my fantasy football draft board than say, work tasks, or the impending midterms. I can agree that fantasy football is not as important in reality, if reality can agree that fantasy football is more important for my mental health...

Whatever else happens this World Cup, at least it gave me the pure joy of sitting at a bar and listening to a boy on a date mansplain the sport to a woman who has never heard of Messi (and thus plainly could not be less interested)…

But I am sad that this Cup is destined for a '36 Olympics kind of legacy, and fully understand why everyone else will think we're getting what we deserve if the "FIFA Peace Prize" recipient can't exploit any wins for the nation that doesn't even like soccer the way the rest of the world does (5/5).

...because those athletes didn't choose the geopolitical morass they've inherited, they're just trying to improbably exceed the expectation that they flop. (And as a Northwestern fan, I implicitly relate to USMNT "home" crowds.) (4/ )

The World Cup will still be great in spite of itself, for the same reasons it survived being hosted in other authoritarian locales (Russia, Qatar): Because the athletes are great, and the game is great. I'll cheer for USMNT (as long as we don't get any Kash Patel afterparties)... (3/ )

We didn't have to understand soccer as a country, we just had to be willing to throw an inclusive party and enjoy being part of it. That's not beyond our capacity as a people, but it is beyond the current administration, because inclusivity is fundamentally at odds with their worldview. (2/ )

The saddest part about this moribund march toward the World Cup with its daily trickle of news of players and officials detained for hours at airports or barred entirely from coming, is that it squanders a generational opportunity. USA '94 was a spectacle in the best of ways. (1/ )

The contrast between this and the NBA Finals Game 3 situation. Chef's kiss. Hope MSG boos its unwanted visitor louder than if he was Reggie Miller in the '90s.

The Chicago Tribune reporting (dated 3/27) on the bill says Castro hasn't even visited EMSA despite multiple invites. I'm all ears for how exactly she thinks my child's education would be improved by putting people who didn't want his school to exist in charge. 4/4.

Castro says she wants the local community to have a seat at the table, because "school districts know their students' needs best" and "Oversight from a distance is not the best way to promote a high-quality, comprehensive education." The irony... 3/

something wrong with Elgin Math and Science Academy not getting approval to renew its charter from U-46. But I do know that U-46 didn't want to approve its charter in the first place in 2017, which makes me skeptical giving U-46 oversight of EMSA will "improve relations" as Castro contends. 2/

The biggest thing I do not understand about IL State Senator Cristina Castro's push for SB4040, Am.2 (which would require charter schools to operate with local school board approval instead of state approval) is who is asking for it? I've not met a single one of my neighbors who thinks there is 1/

I don't know French politics anywhere near well enough dip a toe any further in than this, but I will say that Mbappe and Le Pen's people clashing is somehow both an encouraging reminder that it's not just the US that has crazy people, and a depressing reminder of the same.

They'll be able to market Mitchell+James Harden for as long as they need to (lots of wins with no finals appearances/underdog pitch+hey look that guy has a beard!). Still a lost opportunity to get Cade in front of a national audience for whom Detroit's whole season/earning the 1-seed feels flukish.

I do not understand how it benefits the NBA to deny the Pistons the spotlight with more unwatchable Prime broadcasts. They’ll be able to sell OKC (defending champs), San Antonio (Wemby’s playoff arrival) and the Knicks (NY market+Brunson’s college resume). No casual knows who Cade Cunningham is.

I shouldn't be shocked after the NFL gave Amazon Prime playoff games, too--but it's still jarring to me that Pistons-Magic Game 6 is not on cable. It's one thing for the NBA to put play-in games on a livestream. Another entirely for the East #1 seed's season to potentially end with a muted audience.

I think debt is a big part of the story as well. It‘s the difference between a “good” income feeling good versus it feeling necessary just to keep treading water. It is psychologically challenging to work hard and not feel like that ever actually gets you ahead.

Mixed feelings about the don't fly if you don't have to sentiment I'm seeing a lot of places today. On the one hand, I get it and agree -- I wouldn't be in a hurry to fly extra with ICE at airports either. But on the other, I'm from a Navy family used to living all over. 1/

Dems literally offering to fund non-ICE portions of DHS and have a welcome debate about ICE’s roll on its own merits, but no, let’s have ICE make the famously calm flying experience even more serene instead, as if no one’s gonna notice GOP cares more about hardline ICE than basic travel. 2/2

The irony of adding airport security to ICE’s role at a moment in time where the whole reason TSA funding hangs in the balance is the overreach of ICE in the first place. 1/

The Cesar Chavez/Dolores Huerta revelations really drive home yet again the infuriating pervasiveness of sexual misconduct. Genuinely find it hard to understand how so very many men can perpetrate such unconscionable acts (though unfortunately very easy to believe, given the repetition).

I dunno what a Special Envoy for Shield of the America's is, but I suspect it's going to be a much cushier landing than we all hoped the headline "Noem fired" would suggest. Meanwhile, since her successor will be introduced via the headline "Trump hires...", spoiler alert: Still not gonna be good.

No one is against protecting Americans. But the GOP is fooling itself if they think there aren't codas you could add which would keep their butts glued to seats as well. Is the right standing if the duty is "to protect American citizens, not oil companies"? "To protect Americans, not gunmakers?" 2/2

The thing with the "first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens" cudgel is if POTUS was capable of leaving off the last three words of animus toward migrants, I think he'd have been surprised how many Dems would have agreed. 1/

Really interesting read Bill. I wonder if you have any thoughts on how the Pats blitzing intersects with Seattle's bootlegging? Does it mean Seattle can't use as much because the pressure blows it up? Or does it mean the blitz is less effective because of the misdirection and movement of the pocket?
