Farez @farez.bsky.social · 10/02/2025Man, I totally underestimated the "plumbing" required to create a custom email sending feature that's inbox-friendly. This is for popinvoice.com, so that our customers can email invoices using their own "From" address. 150
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 02/02/2025DeepSeek is now available in our open source web page summarizer Chrome extension, thanks to a new contribution. Get it here: github.com/farez/web-su... If you can code, please do contribute! 060
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 02/02/2025Back on video again. Here's my latest post on whether AI is going to give us back some free time... youtu.be/ZLp_6uMCWPU?...youtu.beIs AI going to give us more free time?YouTube video by Farez Rahman 030
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 26/01/2025It's ok for simple text extraction but it's outlived it's purpose now. We're beyond MVP now and will transition to something more sophisticated for extraction. 110
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 26/01/2025o1-mini and o1 are now available on bunni.ai. o1-mini is impressive. Same price as 4o but much more comprehensive answers. I can't really see the use of o1 yet for document research use case but included it in anyway. Hoping to discover some neat uses from users! 000
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 25/01/2025Ah, no. I'm using Laravel/PHP on the backend, and that's using this library to extract text: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poppler... But I'm migrating to a 3rd party service soon (possibly unstructured.io) so I can so do OCR.en.wikipedia.orgPoppler (software) - Wikipedia 120

Farez @farez.bsky.social · 25/01/2025If you're trying to understand how a particular piece of software or feature is put together, here's a neat way of "reverse engineering" it in Cursor: Include @codebase so that the AI has access to all of the code, and then ask it to summarise the flow, end to end. 250
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 09/01/2025This is the simplest app I've ever built, that I (and some other users) still use regularly: websitemonitor.live. I haven't even changed the Laravel placeholder logo on it! And it's free to use - please help yourself. 020
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 08/01/2025But whether you're building an "AI startup" or simply using AI to build your business, it's a really exciting time to be building. 110
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 08/01/2025Of course there are risks to solo founders, which I think are: - Running out of money before finding product-market fit. - Succumbing to a highly stressful endeavour. - Tonnes more competition in a short space of time. 100
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 08/01/2025These 2 parts from Sam Altman's Reflections article gets me excited to be in the AI space. Nobody really has a recipe to building a business with and for AI. Which gives solo founders and small teams a huge advantage. We can move faster than incumbents...blog.samaltman.comReflectionsThe second birthday of ChatGPT was only a little over a month ago, and now we have transitioned into the next paradigm of models that can do complex reasoning. Farez @farez.bsky.social · 08/01/2025So far: - Our newsletter - Reddit Going to create lots of use case videos soon too. 000
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 08/01/2025Thanks Arunima. 100% agree on the AI voice. We had to use it because we didn't have a mic when launching the video! But yeah, it's time to replace it (we have one now!). 000
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 03/01/2025Pricing experiment on my Notion date automation tool seems to be working well. Previous plan: $1 pay per use. New plan: $5 for 3 days of unlimited use. Result after 6 days: revenue has already exceeded the all-time total of previous plan. 010
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 03/01/2025Best testimonial ever? Same person submitted the product feedback 3 times. Top one is the latest one. 010
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 03/12/2024So I can understand why Raiza Martin and her team decided to go build something on their own, after an incredible home run with NotebookLM! Exciting times. 020
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 03/12/2024Nobody knows what next year, let alone "the future" looks like. Getting in now is the best way to shape it. My foundational belief is that every human being deserves to earn a living independently and through their own creativity. And I believe AI is going to help us do that. 120
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 03/12/2024"the opportunity to go build on your own, try something new, during this exciting time in technology" This is the same fire that burns inside me and plenty of other startup founders and indie makers. 140
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024I used Cursor with its agent feature. And just kept prompting one feature after another. 000
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024And it's done! I built a simple, complete, full-featured, POS system with a kitchen display in 4 hours. Without writing a single line of code myself. 110
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024It's just a generic reference to being able to surface bookmarks automatically (eg when we're writing about something, the relevant bookmarks appear) or by searching for it. I have an old post about this: farez.substack.com/p/bookmarkingfarez.substack.comBookmarking is a misunderstood problemWe do not need apps to help us hoard more links. 000
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024We don't need a bookmarking feature. We need better discovery and recall features. 110
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024 I mean, it won't work unless you're on the same wifi. Come on! So tonight, I'm building my own, simpler, alternative. Which is crazy because before AI, this would have taken weeks! I'm building this in a night. PS I'm using Cursor's agent feature. Not a single line of code written by me. 110
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024So my wife and I run a popup cocktail bar on the beach. For fun (and a small profit). We've been using a really clunky order and kitchen display app called Loyverse, which A LOT of restaurants and bars use. But it's the most clunky and bloated product ever. 100

Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024When I'm instructing the AI, I'm instead in the flow of getting the feature and UX working before I even have space to think about the smaller details. Not that I don't care about details. But it allows me to focus on the right level of detail at the right time. 010
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024When I'm working "inside" the code, I tend to get distracted and overthink details that are not important at that time. Like when I'm creating a new form for a feature, I'll be agonising about button placement and font. When I should just get it working first. 100
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024I've been using Cursor to develop my apps for about 2 months now. Apart from the obvious 100x dev time speedup, I also found another positive side effect. I am not overthinking it... 100

Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024Did you know that in Thailand, invoices must legally include the total written in words? Little details like this have inspired us to make Pop Invoice even more customisable. 100
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024Like I used to think A4 portrait invoices were the standard because that’s how I’ve always done it. But seeing how you use Pop Invoice has been an eye-opener. From sleek one-liners to invoices with 10 columns or 40 line items, the variety is incredible. 100
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 27/11/2024Pop Invoice has taught me so much about how small businesses and freelancers around the world run their businesses. This is what makes working on our humble little invoicing app so rewarding — every user brings a unique approach to invoicing. 110
Farez @farez.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Ah, didn't know about that feature. Thanks for the feedback. There's been interest so I think I will be working on it soon. Also, I need it haha. 010
