![Guess who is behind the push to get these small nuclear reactors ready for use in America's neighborhoods?
Masters of Al. They want them to power their data centers.
• Move Fast, Break Things: The Trump Administration has gutted the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and handed oversight of the new untested microreactors to the Energy
Department, which is now asking for volunteers to speed up safety reviews. A lawyer at the Energy Department said safety officials will do "whatever we need to ensure that the government is not stopping you from reaching [nuclear] criticality on or before July 4, 2026." Three former chairs of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission warn this is dangerous. Instead of listening to safety experts, the administration seems more interested in the advice of a major nuclear CEO, who last year told Trump that "delay in regulations and permitting will absolutely kill you." Of course, foregoing safety for speed can also kill you — literally, not figuratively.
"This is not normal," warned one former
NRC chair. "This is not going to lead to success. This is how to have an accident."](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:wzat4krko22pb7o5psekxw2s/bafkreihbktcyeguyf5mtfzhqggmv3vr65pj32ynnwdqypeiguiou5iwxfu)
