thanks ☺️ @toaugust.bsky.social for tagging, and congrats 🥳 on 1.4K Lynx! i’m FFE, back to making art after a long time away—mostly colorful abstracts and landscapes with real or digital paint. 🎨 i love all sorts of human-made art and hope to dabble in much more before my dabbling time runs out! 🖤
Colorful landscape painting in which a thick trunked deciduous tree dominates the foreground, set against a low hillside in the distance. The sunlight is coming in low and from the right, lighting the face of the tree in gold and pink hues. The thin strip of sky between the heavy-laden lower boughs and the hillside is bright cerulean blue to the right and darkens somewhat to the left as the hillside rises. Atop that hill to the left of the tree is a distant, squat, nondescript building with a flat roof and a single entrance, from which a narrow path descends, winding down the hillside toward the viewer and disappearing off the bottom of the canvas. The shadows between the boughs and in the contours of the hillside are a deep blue, sometimes blue-green, complementing the golds and pinks on the tree’s well-lit right face.abstract streaks and washes of color permeate the canvas. The dominant colors of the background are swirling layers violet, black and magenta. A streak of teal interrupts this backdrop coming in from the left and breaking up before it can stretch across the canvas. Other lighter streaky artifacts of this teal shade appear here and there. Pools of yellow and lime green radiate in from the top and bottom rightA tall piece of pixel art, with a simple blocking cityscape silhouette at the bottom against a curbing backdrop of Green Hills. The other 90% of the canvas is taken up by a tall dark cloudbank over a thin light strip of sky. The cloudbank is ominous and laced with yellow branches of lightning, one of which is striking the hillside on the left bottom edge of the canvas. On a 4 x 4 inch canvas, abstract vertical streaks of color appear to suggest the dark trunks of trees clustered together against the backdrop of a warm red-orange sunrise or sunset, its “light” barely peeking through a few of the “treetops” in the upper half of the canvas. Acrylic paint is layered thickly on the canvas creating vertical ridges and webbed tendrils branching off of these—all of which are highlighted with thin drips and dots in various shades of green, yellow, and crimson. The overall effect is of a web or network of glowing tendrils overlaid against a shadowy thicket of vertical strokes partially backlit by a fiery burst of color in the upper center.

bonus bear friend pic, and i wish the same 🖤 “what is watering can, what is any of this?”
A small black bear has wandered into a residential yard and is sniffing a green plastic flower-watering can which is positioned next to a weathered wooden swing, and a speck of yellow flower-bloom is visible in the bottom left.

wise take—it can be dangerous out in these Appalachian forests! a small bear (not poisonous) visited our backyard last week, just steps away from where the forest pic was taken!
A young black bear is exploring a grassy human yard, viewed from above between the wooden rails of a deck, and framed in the background by a wooden swing, some yellow flowers, and a green plastic flower watering can.

no time for #art this week unless you count frying the heck out of this pic with iPhone filters “corrupted sunset” 9 Jun 2026 hoping for some painting or pixel-art time over the weekend—happy Friday! #forestfriday #scape #phonetography #surreal #abstractphotography #pareidolia #trees
Portrait-oriented photo of a forest at sunset has been turned on its side and displayed in landscape orientation, and filtered such that the colors are saturated and altered: drab green leaves at the bottom reach upward toward bright green leaves that dangle down from the top. In the middle ground, more foliage as seen as through a haze, shades of violet against the pink and blood orange saturated light piercing through in specks from the background. A fragment of pink treetrunk frames the top left corner, balanced by a tuft of pink shrub-branches poking out from the middle of the right border. The otherworldly colors and orientation may invite one to view it almost as an abstract photo, or to locate instances of pareidolia in the patterns made by the leaves and branches, and the patches of surreal, oversaturated light peeking through.

great and thought-provoking capture! had in mind a similar juxtaposition while painting “stars / bars” last July and hope you don’t mind me sharing it with you here (a rather overwrought version of some things you’ve evoked much more elegantly with your photo i think)
A portrait-oriented surreal landscape, evoking an image of the American flag hung lengthwise with the “stars” portion top-right.

Unlike a perfect square with 50 evenly-placed white stars, this bit stabs into the frame at an angle, as if half of an elongated blue diamond (the other half being out of frame). The inside of the half-diamond appears to evoke a room split diagonally down the center, as if the bottom-right is the “floor” & the top-left a “wall.” On the floor, 25 identical white stars stand in 4 rows, filling the visible space: 9 in front, then 8, 6, & 2. The top-left, “wall” portion is covered by a silver-framed mirror, in which another 25 stars show. Though these seem to reflect the floor, the rows don’t match: the mirror has 7 rows, irregular numbers of stars in each. Also reflected is the bottom corner of a window, maybe on an opposite wall out of frame). This area hovers surreally above the landscape below, integral yet disconnected, separated from the rest by a thin, light-blue line.

The rest of the scene is dominated & defined by 7 thick, warped metallic “bars” in the foreground—vertical like the flag’s stripes—& by bits of surreal landscape peeking out from behind them. The bottom half is thick with row upon row of red & blue abstract humans—so similar as to seem identical—grouped by color to form additional “stripes” of the implied flag, alternating with and alienated from one another by the silver bars. Left to right the human stripes are: red, blue, red, blue, red, blue.

Above this field of colorful humanity behind bars, the horizon line curves away, showing four structures out past the people, under a peach, orange, & sickly yellow-green sky. Left to right, these structures are: a large blue-gray featureless cube, concertina wire running across its top; two brick-colored factories or power plants, a smokestack atop each corner of their roofs, spewing gray-white smoke into the dramatic sky, & finally a large golden building with a huge golden …

had just enough time for a quick abstract today “watching it fall” oils w/ palette knife 2 Jun 2026 #art #abstractart #oils #humanartist #abstractexpressionism #painting
square abstract expressionist canvas in which a background of mottled red and pink has been applied with palette knife, upon which a few brighter, wide, pink strokes of palette knife have been applied. In a couple of places, the wider pink strokes are sliced through energetically, revealing the red beneath. Similarly energetic strokes of palette knife appear to have applied a cluster of several vertical bright green lines, tilting this way and that, some of them appearing to topple over to the right. The leftmost green lines appears to be blown apart by an energetic upward-diagonal knife stroke through their lower halves, and splatters of bright green dot the top, right, and bottom edges of the canvas.

Abstract expressionist square canvas in which the top 2/3 of the canvas in shades of red, pink and black appears to descend upon or wrap itself over the bottom third, a melange of light blues and yellows overtaken by stray smears of red and pink. Palette knife strokes are varied and decisive, leading to an overall chaotic look.

moonrise at whitestick and crescent #scape #photography #nocturne #moon #fullmoon #ECK #appalachia #countryroads #stunday #iphonephoto
Night photo taken at the intersection of two asphalt country roads, bordered on all sides by trees and tall shrubs, and presided over by a roadside double-billboard—its images awash in underlit, overexposed light and largely illegible to the lens: fragments of a few words and the washed out, featureless headshot of a longhaired person in business attire.

Behind and below the towering billboard, the moon is rising dramatically over the treeline and lighting up a spray of fluffy, cirrocumulus clouds in the night sky, above the spot where the asphalt road stretches away into the distance.

An eerie red glow from an unknown source suffuses the bottom left, painting the asphalt there, and another lights the tops of the foliage directly beneath the billboard and to the right of the rising moon. An orange glow is visible far away where the asphalt road shrinks and disappears over a rise, and another speck of red light is barely visible at the far right border, peeking out from behind the low trees—perhaps the light of another faraway billboard, on another road.

just some #texture for #YellowSun #ColorADay #art #painting #oils #bambooskewer #abstractart #abstractexpressionist
Textured abstract expressionist painting in shades of yellow and green, predominantly in flowing horizontal, downward-arcing strokes from left to right rendered by palette knife and bamboo skewer, producing a surface somewhat akin to the fluid dynamics in a flowing river—though with choppier, more angular patches. Darker greens are in the shadowed background, while the lighter greens and yellows lay on top, further deepening the similarity to the illusion of light on a flowing liquid or perhaps ferro-fluid surface.

not been painting, posting or keeping up with notifs for a bit now, but soon i’ll clean up this desk and spend some time catching up on bsky. thanks to all 💚 who’ve followed or encouraged my return to art— i’m thinking up something(s) special in case i get to 800, 900, 1000 ☺️ —and more ART 🎨 soon!
A very messy art desk, paint-smeared tools and paint tubes strewn all over it and the many-colored artifact smudges from previous paint projects are covering the surface. A couple of small half-finished canvases lie abandoned near the top and the scenario generally does not look conducive for picking them up and finishing them until some cleaning and organizing gets done!

Sketchbook page with a simple landscape painted with oils. Red-orange mountain peaks rise high against a yellow-orange sky, their tops framed by a burst of yellow sunlight. just a glimpse inside my dark universe of absent-minded silliness (the predictable consequences of resting a guitar in an art chair) #oOps #GuitarStandsDoExist
Photo of the back of a wooden acoustic guitar-body showing a line of smeared yellow paint that seems out of place on the reflective surface. Reflected in the glossy finish of the wood, we see the object that is also in the foreground of the photo: a painting surface with smears of many-colored paint—but most notably a large yellow smear, against which the guitar was obviously left resting during an absent-minded moment.

“bleeding land” 21 May 2026 #art #abstractart #landscape #abstractexpressionist #painting #traditionalart #humanartist #coloraday #yellowthu #appalachianartist
Dramatic abstract expressionist square canvas. Red, yellow, and green predominate, with hasty multi directional strokes of palette knife overlaying these colors upon one another. The overarching movement is V shaped, as in the concentric V shapes in a landscape painting looking between the peaks of two trees or mountains at a more distant layer of V-shaped land, cradling a final third layer of V-shaped sky. In this analogy, a small upside down triangle of yellow at the top of the canvas represents the sky, bordered below by a dramatic red V of land, water or both taking up the middle of the canvas, all of which is cradled in the foreground by a green V shape perhaps representing a pair of coniferous trees or mountains meeting at their bases. Streaks of each color or blended into and overlay into the others creating an energetic movement if not an impression of violence.

Two small circular canvases painted in expressionistic streaks of red and black. The lower canvas also contains some bright pink highlights toward the center. They are positioned upon a white background that bears the artifact-marks of the painting process: black and red palette knife scrapes, smears and smudges. The upper canvas is rougher and darker, with more black smears and scrapes over the deep red background. The lower canvas is brighter with more fluid swoops and swirls but still marred by a few more linear shadowy streaks and splotches.

Portrait oriented abstract sketch in digital marker. The bottom border of the canvas is painted a deep oceanic blue while above this the middle third is an arcing beige strip contoured with a couple of horizontally meandering brown lines. Above this the top half of canvas is sky blue with white streaks. The points of two concentric triangles stab in from the upper right like the tips of daggers, a red point superimposed over a larger orange point. It’s implied this is a light source, as there are figurative cloud-shapes hanging in midair to its left that appear to be lit orange on their right edges and shadowed in violet on their left. Superimposed over all this are several bold expressionistic lines: a small curving black waveform at the center, a larger orange waveform spreading across the middle of the canvas and a bright yellow waveform below this one, undulating downward off the bottom of the canvas into the deep blue. Think sketchy lines of color trace each of these waveforms intermittently along their full lengths, adding some dimensionality but equally abstract.

Black and white photo of an upper corner of a waiting room, about 2/3 ceiling and 1/3 wall. Part of a large rectangular fluorescent light fixture is visible at the top right—casting a bright light outward from its translucent longer sides and casting into shadow everything behind its closed-off shorter ends. Near the top left, a generic, lighted EXIT sign hangs suspended from the ceiling, its three visible faces tracing the value-palette of light and shadow in the photo: the lettered side is bright, lit directly by the nearby fluorescent light fixture; the bottom edge of the sign is charcoal; and the edge on the left is a muted grey. These darker side edges offset the sign perfectly set it off from the bright wall behind it, which is darkened only by the shadowy umbra and penumbrae cast on it by the EXIT sign itself. The celing corner of the room, at the lower right, is cast in dark shadow.

“another visit to the wound museum” 7 May 2026 (staying up late doing silly things with paint on little magnetic canvases) #sketch #intuitiveart #abstractart
a square canvas is arrayed with pink splotches around its borders, alternating with grey spaces between them. This border design tapers slightly toward the center, creating a mild but inconsistent effect of depth receding toward the center of the canvas, where a small plum colored square of splotchy scabrous paint is ringed with larger concentric squares of brown. This concentric effect is created with chaotically placed angular grey scratch-marks in a large square field of smooth brown paint surrounding the smaller textured plum square at the center.

thank you @luiscordoba.bsky.social …would you believe it started as an abstract in black and pink? this is what it looked like when i went to sleep last night:
abstract expressionist canvas in landscape orientation, smears of bright pink over black and grey with scratches, ripples and other textures applied via palette knife

“out of the woods” 7 May 2026 #art #scape #landscape #ColorADay #YellowThu #painting #oilpainting #humanartist #humanart
Figurative, expressionistic landscape in muted earth tones with bright yellow highlights. In the center foreground, the trunk of a thick deciduous tree with a small knot or hole in the enter rises to a lush, fluffy golden canopy. The right side of the tree and its foliage is lit side-on from the right as by a rising or setting sun, lighting up the right side in bright yellows. In the distance behind the tree we see a rising landscape under a dark sky, and on the left atop a smooth rise, a small building also lit up by the setting or rising sun. The building appears to have a small portal in the side facing the light, and a path of some sort winds down the hill meandering in the general direction of the viewer.

“oil to blood exchange rate” 6 May 2026 quick one as #RedWed winds down bc i’m in a mood and had to paint it out #art #abstractart #painting #oils
On a portrait oriented canvas, various shades of red have been applied with a palette knife, leaving raised ridges, streaks and pools of paint forming a rough, uneven texture. Atop this texture, long, thin slashes and small patches of black have been applied with the edge of a palette knife, resembling cuts or at times directional spatters.

for #RedWed “oil” & “red seascape” STILL only partially dry after many weeks of watching & waiting #art #ColorADay #oil #red #abstractart
portrait oriented canvas covered in crimson paint that has had a palette knife dragged through it in sinuous expressionistic vertical strokes—leaving an array of tangled, shadowy vertical folds and striations like the texture of rumpled thin fabric, or the fibers of muscle tissue.expressionistic red seascape on a square canvas, with a thin line of yellow crossing the middle at the horizon, and thin striations of yellow light feathered through the looming, heavily textured red clouds above. The sea itself is red and choppy, reflecting little of the yellow accents of light above.

5 May 2026 #ColorADay #BlueTue #art #oils #abstractexpressionist #painting
A small round canvas, several shades of blue are smeared and swirled together creating a mild illusion of multilayered depth, as of a swirling atmosphere above an ocean-covered planetoid.
