Hey friends, one of our Peculiarity Shop artists is trying to help cover a surgery for this sweet senior baby.

I suspect it's a human monitoring a shared inbox, because there are a few minutes between replies (and because they typoed the account-opening email address 🙃). It's also an entry-level c/s job, so I have some grace for a person to be learning how to interact. Just, so much easier over the phone.

I worked for Hachette Book Group, first in c/s then in sales. I was a bookseller before that. I know what info to provide and what to ask for. This should be easy! It... apparently is not. (The book in question is not from HBG. If it were I'd uh, probably start by emailing someone I know there. XD)

I don't expect them to know my discount until they know my acct type, which happens after credit app is approved, but because it's an academic book, it might've been static. But also it took me 3 emails to be told that. At least they have confirmed the books are returnable for an author event.

I now have a credit app to fill out, which is fine, I was expecting one. The person still did not answer my question about discount schedule and returns policy for author event orders, so I have asked for that again. I don't know if this is a bot or someone who didn't read the full email.

So, I was forced to send an email to the publisher's events address. In that, I stated that I don't know if we have an account. If we do, they can tell me! If we don't, I will fill out a credit app. Here is all the shop info, here is the book info. Reply: Hi, what is your account number? ...sigh.

I know I am An Old. I know that having a paper trail is good, actually. But also sometimes I just want to call customer service and talk to a human to get things sorted because it's SIMPLY FASTER THAT WAY. This cloud-yelling brought to you by trying to order some books for an upcoming author talk.

On one hand, it's a library trustee position, so it's generally been pretty low-key. On the other, if anyone comes for queer books, they're going to have to come through me.

Jewell Parker Rhodes wrote TOWERS FALLING for kids born after 9/11. It doesn't pretend we were a country united after the fact, addressing racism, fear, and trauma. The book is both gentle and honest, and I still think about it 10 years after its original publication. bookshop.org/p/books/towe...

Scheduled my covid/flu shots for Sunday, figuring I'd have Monday off to recover (museum's closed, I can loll about on the couch if need be.) Dentist: Appointment reminder! Doctor's office: Appointment reminder! Damn it, past me.

Listen, I know this is only at 9% of votes counted and the lead may not hold, but I hope that at minimum Stephen Lynch has gnawed off several fingernails.

Screencap from AP News live results of the MA-08 Democratic primary. Currently, Patrick Roath is at 51.4% and Stephen Lynch trails at 48.6%.

Dolly Parton, among a thousand other amazing things she did in her life, gifted over 330 million books to kids through her Imagination Library program. Her passing is a tremendous loss to the world, but you can support the program today to keep it going imaginationlibrary.com

ORPHANED CATS NEED FOREVER HOME IN NORTHEAST (PLEASE READ *ENTIRE* THREAD) My wife's childhood friend died Thursday, leaving his two *mildly* special-needs cats. The elder, Wally, is about 13. ABSOLUTELY affectionate cat; GLORIOUSLY dim. His only issue is that he poops in bathtubs if given a chance

I would include a picture of Tendi's butt hanging over the edge, but she is a cat and thus moved as soon as I picked up the phone.

Study/craft space rearranging continues. I put a shelf in one Kallax cube, Ada instantly crams herself into the space. Fine, okay, it's her pass-through. Swap it to a different spot. Tendi: OH IS THIS FOR ME. *wriggles in* I need someone to organize my cats, apparently.

In my dad's defense,* he did it at the request of the little old lady who lived next door.** ...Then she told him to get the tree from the *previous* year that was in the woods. *It's not like he took THAT much convincing. **She waited until she saw my mom leave on an errand to call out to him

The strand that's on the top in the picture has one extra repeat of the pattern. XD I apparently wasn't paying attention when I did it, and by the time I spotted it I'd already done all the finishing stuff.

Just found a necklace I put in Jewelry Time Out months ago and I'm annoyed at it all over again. 😂

A hand knotted necklace with a ceramic focal, fluorite cubes, small pearls and hematite spacers. The top strand is one pattern repeat longer than the lower strand.

<3! Those olivine beads picked up the little flashes of color in the ceramic so nicely. I was so happy when I realized it. 😁

Somehow, I don't think this is what the Ikea instructions meant.

Ikea instructions suggesting two people should put the item together.

Three cats (Ada, a black and white cat, and Tendi and Mariner, two black cats), perched atop an Ikea box.

Moved a bookshelf 90 degrees, against the other wall. Not only did I have to take all the books OFF of it to move it, now I need to... *checks notes* put them back? This seems like bullshit.
