I hunt fake history and correct it, but also post amazing real history stuff. Rude, obscene, vulgar, racist people who can't act like grown-ups get blocked. linktr.ee/fakehistoryhunter

Look what I found, Italy 1630s/40s, just after the first possible appearance of the bird beak plague doctor. A funny costume... sure looks familiar though doesn't it. www.britishmuseum.org/collection/o...

Every time I see modern demonstrations, regardless what they're for or against, I'm a bit disappointed. In my mind they should always look like this, flat caps, rolled up sleeves, clenched fists and proper impressive signs in stead of funny ones. This one is a gem:

It's that time of the year again, the evenings are getting cold, the wood burns. Feels ceremonial, like I'm in touch with my ancestors ;)

It wouldn't be nice to go around during Halloween, asking people with bird beak masks what their outfit is and when they mention middle ages or black death hand them this meme... You could even laminate it ;)

Watching a show set in the 1860s... wait... pause... go back... stop! Is that a rubber teapot nozzle? Did they have those in the 1860s? I don't think so, oldest example I could find was from 1914.

Happy Leifr Eiríksson day! "Norwegian Bokmål: Leiv Eirikson oppdager Amerika" (Leiv Eirikson discovering America) Painting from 1893 by Christian Krohg (1852–1925). Yes, well spotted, this 19th century painting is more accurate than quite a few modern films/tv shows... ;)

Got an email from the newspapers.com folks that there was a new newspaper mention of my family name. Where I'm from being the first fishermen of the season to bring in Herring is a big deal :) I never knew one of my ancestors achieved that back in 1859!

I've written a chapter about it in my book. There's no date or source for the photo on the left. Without confirmed date its impossible to say, but these are dated to the 1940s and I think likelier contestants, 2nd one might be unintentional, so more likely perhaps?

For some weird reason spotting spoons stuck in people's hats has made me happy ever since I was a little girl. Just seemed like a smart way to carry a spoon in case of emergency eating. Was it only a thing in the low countries? Anyway, some examples:

Just realised that the story in 'Quest for fire' is in a way the wrong way around as the evidence (so far) suggests that Neanderthals(ish) knew how to make fire before Homo Sapiens did, so if anyone taught anyone... ;) Love that film as a kid btw, need to rewatch & review.

Is it just me or would it be silly to have servant's bells in the living room or bedroom? Spotted this in the trailer for the new film Ebenezer, set in Victorian times. Normally these bells would be in the servant's area, to tell them where they were needed.
