Exactly. The Free Alberta Strategy she uses calls for a referendum designed to challenge the constitution. Then Ottawa can't legally cave to her demands, then separation. They'll have to wait until spring. It's just that simple.

Alberta separatists are selling the narrative that 'Canada is a sinking ship.' That is not an economic diagnosis — and it's not factually correct.
Factsmtr fact sheet titled 'Canada: The Numbers' with a green 'Fact Check' badge, dated August 2026. Eight stat cards: GDP growth 2025 +1.7%, still growing not shrinking; job creation vs. U.S. nearly 3x, Canada added 3.4 jobs per 1,000 people since early 2025; unemployment 6.4%, down from a 7.1% peak, a two-year low; federal deficit 2025-26 $66.9B, $11.5B lower than forecast; federal debt-to-GDP 41.1%, with net debt lowest in the G7; credit rating AAA from S&P, Moody's and DBRS, while the U.S. has lost its top rating from S&P, Fitch, and Moody's; new investment secured $97 billion in foreign commitments and 20+ partnerships; trade diversification $5 billion fund for ports, rail, and trade corridors. Bottom line: Canada is out-hiring the U.S., beat its own deficit forecast, holds top-tier credit ratings, and pulled in $97 billion in new investment — a strong, resilient economy. Sources: Statistics Canada, Department of Finance Canada, PMO, CBO, S&P, Moody's, Fitch, DBRS.

Alberta submitted a formal proposal for a new West Coast oil pipeline to the federal Major Projects Office on July 2, 2026. Price tag: $35–44 billion. No certificate, no approval, no final route yet. Here's what's actually confirmed as of July 4. 🔍 #ableg #cdnpoli #TransMountain

Factsmtr flyer titled "Alberta's Proposed West Coast Pipeline: Status as of July 4, 2026" with a magnifying glass icon.
Current Status: Alberta's government submitted a formal pipeline proposal to the federal Major Projects Office on July 2, 2026. The federal government has referred it for review. No construction has started and the project has not been approved.
The Proposal: Route runs from Bruderheim, Alberta to a coastal terminal in southwest British Columbia, largely following the existing Trans Mountain corridor, with two routing options under consideration, roughly 1,200 to 1,250 kilometres. Proposed capacity is more than 1 million barrels of oil per day. Estimated cost is $35.2 to $43.7 billion including contingencies. Estimated completion is 2032 to 2034. Trans Mountain Corporation would develop it. Ownership would be split equally between the governments of Canada and Alberta as majority partners, with Pembina Pipeline Corporation holding a 10% stake during construction and an option for up to another 10% once operating; Pembina says it will risk no capital before a final investment decision. A "meaningful equity stake" for Indigenous communities has been announced in principle, with no specific terms made public.
Regulatory Status (as of July 4, 2026): No Canada Energy Regulator certificate issued. No completed federal impact assessment published. No federal approval to construct issued. No final route chosen. No final financing structure released; definitive agreements targeted for September 2026. No project-specific agreements with First Nations made public.
Related Projects: Alberta's TIER industrial carbon pricing framework and the Pathways carbon capture and storage (CCUS) project.
