love it when my detective drama about the revenge killing of a gangster by a veteran officer suddenly veers off the rails for a few minutes to extoll the virtues of fast food restaurants
A screenshot from the Furuhata Ninzaburo episode "The Final Greeting" (S01E12).

In a somewhat moody hotel room, Detective Kogure - a grizzled older cop - clutches a burger while staring thoughtfully off-camera. Detective Imaizumi - Furuhata's assistant - stares at him in the background, looking as guileless as he usually does.

"Mothra Burger..." says Detective Kogure.

one of the best parts about free will is being able to create 48 profile pictures out of one anime character for no discernible reason
A Windows Explorer panel showing 48 different square photos, all of which involve the character Lucoa from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. In most, she's staring straight at the viewer, but some have her taking alternative poses and expressions.

The photos are all riffs on bands, either through iconography or album covers, and have filenames to match. Bands covered include Yard Act, Spiritualized, Justice, WU LYF, Everything Everything, and Boards of Canada.

my friend and i have been watching a steady stream of bizarre japanese films, but somehow neither of us were prepared for one to just pull out HIDEAKI GODDAMN ANNO
A screenshot of the film Funky Forest: The First Contact (2005).

High school students sit in a Japanese classroom. However, the class inexplicably consists of people of various ages and outfits - including some decked out in headphones and bizarre gloves. Sitting at the front, next to a small girl, is Studio Gainax founding member and latter-day Studio Khara founder Hideaki Anno. He leans forward in his chair, as if whatever the hell's happening in front of him is of the utmost importance.A cropped screenshot of the film Funky Forest: The First Contact (2005).

Studio Gainax founding member and latter-day Studio Khara founder Hideaki Anno is smiling - a concerning thing to see, considering whatever's occurring in front of him is likely bizarre and off-putting in some manner.A cropped screenshot of the film Funky Forest: The First Contact (2005).

Studio Gainax founding member and latter-day Studio Khara founder Hideaki Anno thinks whatever's happening to his side is poggers.A cropped screenshot of the film Funky Forest: The First Contact (2005).

Studio Gainax founding member and latter-day Studio Khara founder Hideaki Anno is replicating what the rest of his classmates are doing - holding his hands to his chest and asking "Are you hitting on me?". Needless to say, we were NOT hitting on Hideaki Anno.

His wife was also in the film - it would've been very improper.

always nice to get a media server you care about organized
Two thumbnails for television series are visible, both taking place on white backgrounds. On the left, Tohru - the main dragon from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid - is standing proudly in her maid uniform, her dragon form visible in shadow. On the right, Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol - stars of Nirvanna The Band The Show - are sitting on the ground in a gray suit and a black suit, respectively.

The thumbnail for Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid has been marked "Nirvanna The Band The Show" while the thumbnail for Nirvanna The Band The Show has been marked "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid".

ah yes, i remember lum invader from the hit manga, anime, and film series "urusei yatsura"
Cropped photo of Discord Tenor GIF search results for the inquiry "lum smug". Pictured is a still of Jeff Goldblum in Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (2012) playing Chef Goldblum. He has a suit and glasses on, and is wearing a VERY smug grin on his face.

Evidently, he is not Lum.

greetings from california! 🐻⚡🐯 can DEFINITELY confirm everybody loves urusei yatsura over here...
It's a CD copy of "Slain by Urusei Yatsura" by Urusei Yatsura leaning up against a stack of countless other CDs. The cover consists of a close-up of a cassette tape player with the words "Slain By" in a black font and "URUSEI YATSURA" in tiger fur lettering over it.

the first time i ever named a pc, i decided to name it after the powerpc architecture because... i'm a sucker for the word "power" 😅. the external drives followed suit; and now that i'm on a new build, that nomenclature's continued. and it's called a monolith because... well, it IS a monolith 😵
A Windows drop-down menu, showing 4 drives available on the system. From left to right, they are; the main drive, titled "PowerPC Monolith" (unmentioned in the main tweet, but this is not only a 2001 reference, but one to the Brighton band Squid's second album "O Monolith"). A larger drive in the same case, titled "Monolith Plus!". Finally, 2 Seagate drives meant more for portable usage, respectfully titled "PowerPak Alpha" and "PowerPack Beta".A picture of a computer case, as taken by Reddit user tomrucki. I am simply using it for purposes of illustration; he has built his computer inside a Pop XL Silent case by Fractal Design, which is the same case the Monolith has been built inside. The Pop XL Silent case is style through its absence; if the side weren't off like it is in this picture, it would be nothing more than a rectangular prism with a power button and two USB ports on top and feet on the button.
