17 minutes to pick apart a 4 min song, albeit the first time she's heard it, incredibly. There could be some overthinking going on. youtu.be/cLJxqystN10?...

#VinylCommunity The Pioneers - Roll On Muddy River (1977) By now located in the UK, The Pioneers produced some MOR pop/soul reggae of which this is a fine example. The public were less keen though, but by the Two Tone years they were resurrected and playing Long Shot Kick The Bucket. #NowPlaying

#VinylCommunity Scientist - Heavyweight Dub Champion (1980) Greensleeves Records prodigy and barely 20 years of age, Scientist weaves dub magic from the riddims of the Roots Radics Band. I could listen to the drops and echoes of this early electronica all day. Best track - Jab #NowPIaying

#VinylCommunity @pipblom.bsky.social Pip Blom - Boat (2019) In a similar quiet/loud/quiet vein to many 90's antecedents. But similarities to bands like Breeders are an inspiration, not a facsimile. Great debut. I saw them a few years at Wilderness in the indie corner. Good live as well. #NowPlaying

#albumoftheday The Fall - Post Script (2026) I was so worried about this release, but the provenance is sound (ex-Fall members/Cog Sinister) and the tunes are excellent. MES snarls and menaces from beyond the grave. Let this be it though, a fitting postscript. No diminishing returns. #VinylCommunity

#NowPlaying Blakroc - Blakroc (2009) Genre blurring collaboration between The Black Keys and hip hop royalty such as Raekwon, Mos Def and Ludacris. It's excellent and, surprisingly, side splittingly funny in places. Recommended.

#NowPlaying Mahalia Jackson - Greatest Hits (1963) £2 car boot find. Battered cover, but the contents are OK. Doo wop tinged gospel topped off with Jackson's peerless, dominating voice. If I'd been raised on gospel rather than dry white Victorian clergyman hymns, my life could have been v different.

Our head teacher doubled as the RE teacher so took religious assembly very seriously. One 70's assembly during a miner's strike the stage trapdoor flew open and half a dozen "miners" with shovels and a pickaxe climbed out to the sounds of The Strawbs' "You Won't Get Me, I'm Part Of The Union"
