i'm really happy with my current projects, they're both intended to be overlay packs: one with subtle armor (to show more of your skin) and one that retextures the swords and tools. both maintaining the default minecraft aesthetic.

I understand why Mojang does it, but I still hate how with almost every update comes more subfolders and individual files within texture packs. I miss editing the GUI on a nice spritesheet. In other news, an old man is yelling at clouds.

I have dabbled in Aseprite, and it's definitely good software. I am a nature of habit unfortunately, unless I have a need to switch, I will stick to my beloved paint. Blockbench has been fun to use, specifically in my case for making armor/skins, makes things a lot easier than just working in 2D.
