Today the most scenic spot we've seen to date & we've seen a few, Hai Van Pass. We started going through rice paddies; no one around, just us enjoying the view. The Pass is incredibly beautiful & worth the hype. The road like a ribbon, weaves through mountains overlooking a stunning coastline.

A visit to the Water Puppet Theatre in Tonkin isn't the usual Sooty and Sweep I thought it would be. Instead, it's magnificent and breathtaking, and I would recommend it to anyone who gets the chance to visit.

Halong Bay - we saw only a fraction; the sheer scale is awesome, and we only had two half days and an overnight stay. Nevertheless, the tranquil emerald waters and the thousands of towering limestone islands, as far as the eye can see, are a vision of awe-inspiring beauty.

Went for a stroll & meandered through crowded streets. The different approach to driving makes crossing the road interesting. We are walking further than needed so we can cross at lights, but locals step straight into the flow & slowly make their way with blind faith & the traffic weaves round them.

As we approached Train St the barrier came down & we were surrounded by a throng of traffic. The train passes inches from homes where people live & between trains, the track is used to cook meals, kids play ball & dogs run free. Even bars cater for tourists who arrive to see the spectacle.

A bite to eat and a well-deserved sleep before an early call tomorrow. This restaurant has no menu; they just serve one dish, beef noodle soup, with a side of fried bread, but it was good.
