in the English revolution all the soldiers in the new model army were issued copies of the "Souldiers Pocket Bible" which was sort of the cromwellian equivalent of the Little Red Book

THE
SOULDIERS Pocket Bible:
Containing the moft(if not all)thofe places contained in holy Scripture, which doe fhew the qualifications of his inner man, that is a fit Souldier to fight the Lords Battels, both before he fight, o in the fight, and after the fight; Which Scriptures are reduced to fe- verall heads, and fitly applyed to the Souldiers feverall occafions, and fo may fupply the want of the whole Bible, which a Souldier cannot conveniently carry about him:
And may bee alfo ufefull for any Chriftian to meditate upon, now in this miferable time of Warre.
Imprimatur,
Edm. Calamy
fof.18. This Book of the Law fhall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou fhalt meditate therein day and night, that thou maift obferve to dee accor- ding to all that is written therein, for then thou fhalt make thy way profperous, and have good fucceffe.

For a Workers' United Front Against Fascism - Leon Trotsky
Worker-Communists, you are hundreds of thousands, millions; you cannot leave for anyplace; there are not enough passports for you. Should fascism come to power, it will ride over your skulls and spines like a terrific tank. Your salvation lies in merciless struggle. And only a fighting unity with the Social Democratic workers can bring victory. Make haste, worker-Communists, you have very little time left!

Trotsky - Their Morals and Ours
“Moral Precepts Obligatory Upon All”

Whoever does not care to return to Moses, Christ or Mohammed; whoever is not satisfied with eclectic hodge-podges must acknowledge that morality is a product of social development; that there is nothing invariable about it; that it serves social interests; that these interests are contradictory; that morality more than any other form of ideology has a class character.

profoundly beautiful trotsky speech here marxist.com/culture-and-...
Not long ago we opened the Shatura power station, one of the best of our construction sites, built on a peat-bog. From Moscow to Shatura is a little more than one hundred kilometers. It would seem that they could shake hands. And yet what a difference in conditions! Moscow is the capital of the Communist International. But you go a few dozen kilometers and you find backwoods, snow and fir-trees, frozen swamps and wild beasts. Black, log-cabined hamlets lie dozing beneath the snow. Sometimes wolf tracks can be seen from the window of the railway car. Where the Shatura station now stands, a few years ago, when they started construction, elk could be found. Now the distance between Moscow and Shatura is covered by a sophisticated construction of metallic masts which support the cable for 115,000 volts of current. And beneath these masts, foxes and wolves will bring out their young. That's the way it is with our entire culture – it is made from the most extreme contradictions, from the highest achievements of technology and generalizing thought on the one hand, and from the primordial taiga on the other.

In defence of trotskyism
"ecclectics live by means of episodic thoughts and improvisations that originate under the impact of events. Marxisr cadres capable of leading the proletarian revolution are trained only by the continual and successive working out of problems and disputes" trotsky what next for the German revolution

I'm afraid the US's position in the previous period as the world single dominant superpower was based on its economic and millitary strength not "soft power" (which is not real)
bluesky screenshot:
the uses position as a superpower has long relied on us leveraging our carefully cultivated soft power so we can punch above our weight when we need to, and the American rights whole project is "let's burn all our soft power and then immediately start a knock down drag out slugfest with the world"

take note 👇
And not only the landlords. The tops of the bourgeoisie are bound up with the landowners by the unity of property interests, and more narrowly by the system of banks. The tops of the petty bourgeoisie and the intelligentsia are materially and morally dependent upon the big and middle proprietors-they are all afraid of the independent mass movement. Meanwhile, in order to overthrow Czarism, it was necessary to rouse tens upon tens of millions of oppressed to a heroic, self-renouncing, unfettered revolutionary assault that would halt at nothing. The masses can rise to an insurrection only under the banner of their own interests and consequently in the spirit of irreconcilable hostility toward the exploiting classes beginning with the landlords. The “repulsion” of the oppositional bourgeoisie away from the revolutionary workers and peasants was therefore the immanent law of the revolution itself and could not be avoided by means of diplomacy or “tact.”

Trotsky - Thee Concepts of the Russian Revolution
True enough, in ancient China, revolutions placed the peasantry in power or, more precisely, placed the military leaders of peasant uprisings in power. This led each time to a redivision of the land and the establishment of a new “peasant” dynasty, whereupon history would begin from the beginning; with a new concentration of usury, and a new uprising. So long as the revolution preserves its purely peasant character society is incapable of emerging from these hopeless and vicious circles. This was the basis of ancient Asiatic history, including ancient Russian history. In Europe beginning with the close of the Middle Ages each victorious peasant uprising placed in power not a peasant government but a left urban party. To put it more precisely, a peasant uprising turned out victorious exactly to the degree to which it succeeded in strengthening the position of the revolutionary section of the urban population. In bourgeois Russia of the twentieth century these could not even be talk of the seizure of power by the revolutionary peasantry.

strongly disagree with this line of thinking, women's oppression, imperialism and colonialism came out of class society, and the abolition of class society is required to do away with them they are not equal, class underlies all other forms of oppression
The intersections and the entanglements and the way different oppression and hierarchies reinforce and contradict one another are vital to understand, but we need to understand each as its own thing first. Patriarchy, class society and colonialsim come into being together, they are not one

Trotsky on the society of the future:
It is difficult to predict the extent of self-government which the man of the future may reach or the heights to which he may carry his technique. Social construction and psycho-physical self-education will become two aspects of one and the same process. All the arts – literature, drama, painting, music and architecture will lend this process beautiful form. More correctly, the shell in which the cultural construction and self-education of Communist man will be enclosed, will develop all the vital elements of contemporary art to the highest point. Man will become immeasurably stronger, wiser and subtler; his body will become more harmonized, his movements more rhythmic, his voice more musical. The forms of life will become dynamically dramatic. The average human type will rise to the heights of an Aristotle, a Goethe, or a Marx. And above this ridge new peaks will rise.

running a marxist society open talk this week, first time I've led one :)

For a short while it seemed as if the establishment had embraced support for minority rights, both Labour and conservative politicians claimed to support equality, with former Conservative prime minister Theresa May at one point proclaiming to be "woke and proud"! Moreover, LGBT pride events became infested with corporate floats and sponsorships, arms manufacturers and banks claiming to stand for diversity equality and inclusion.
What a joke! In the period of apparent mainstream support for the rights of the oppressed no real gains were made for these groups, the gender pay gap barely budged and the wealth disparity between black and white people in America has in fact gotten worse. And now we see this situation has turned into its opposite, the establishment has abandoned even the most tepid and pandering support for minority rights causes, Keir Starmer has welcomed rabid transphobes into his administration, and companies are dropping DEI programs left and right.
What happened? The Marxists have the answer. If you'd like to understand why the ruling class is incapable of advancing the needs of oppressed groups come along to our talk on Friday 28th at 5pm in room HC-206 at Francis Close Hall.
