A playtester on #PomPlanet noticed that if you pause the game while somebody is springing the animation keeps going. I fixed it, but accidentally missed fixing the shadow. Looks a bit like they're chasing frisbees, or it could be a Peter Pan situation. #gamedev #indiedev

Below the Ocean: A short, tight and creative platformer. There are many unique mechanics. They're not all perfect, but it's never long before you move on to the next thing. I missed a collectible in the 1st stage behind a point of no return. My irritation deactivated completionism in my brain.

Time Flies: A unique idea executed perfectly. I love a timer, and here it serves triple function. It structures and limits your exploration. Once you learn a space, it frames a completionist speedrun. Finally, it serves as a dark meditation on the futility of our brief existence.

Toem: I'm a sucker for video game photography and video game compendiums so it checks a lot of boxes. It's simple, but I found it addicting and hard to put down. I would have liked to see reward for style and composition. Most objectives function as a 3D hidden object game.

GNOG: Amanita-core adventure game, audio visual thingy. Strongly evokes the feeling of being on the early 2000s internet, clicking the Stumbleupon button, and finding some avant-garde flash project. (positive) I may have gotten frustrated, but when I was stuck I handed the controller to my wife.

There's lots of early to mid-2000s era games that are presented as a holistic package but are kind of mini game collections. I've had a similar idea for a while where I wanted to make something Game & Watch esque where the games are linked narratively and they evolve as you get better high scores.

Lufia II: An ambitious JRPG mixed with Zelda puzzles. The puzzles are interesting, and difficult. I prefer them to the puzzles in the true SNES Zelda. Unfortunately, it's also a JRPG. The combat isn't bad, but it is both time-consuming and basic. By the end I was avoiding it if possible.

Added a new feature in #PomPlanet, the game now save and restores your previous setup when you restart a level. This is a big UX improvement, much needed for the more complex levels. It was pretty annoying to make too. #gamedev #indiedev

Zone of the Enders: Beyond stylist, but slight. The dynamic camera goes above anything I've seen even in modern games. Unfortunately, the combat is shallow and there are only 3 enemy types. It's a couple hours long but still gets fairly repetitive before the end.

Dragonball Xenoverse 2: The combat is one-dimensional, the gameplay is repetitive, but as a big DB nerd it didn't bother me. The main loop of slowly building up your OC by collecting familiar DB techniques is very rewarding. This game is my junk food. Please praise me more, Frieza sensei.

Because of DLC my Saiyan in Xenoverse 2 learned Ultra Instinct before Super Saiyan. If only they had DLC on Namek, it would have ended a lot faster.

Neo Contra: The perfect Contra game for a newcomer. It's not overly difficult, but it punishes game overs with a full restart. It has great incentive for mastery. It's also funny as hell. It made me laugh my ass off at least once per level. It's top-down Contra, but spiritually very similar to SS.

Absolutely agree. When 3D All-Stars first came out it shocked me that I was enjoying Sunshine more than Galaxy, specifically because I love the movement. I used to say Galaxy 2 was my favorite Mario game, but I'm a bit nervous to replay it.

The Simpsons Road Rage: Maybe I should play Crazy Taxi, this game is fun as hell. It got a few big laughs out of me, and made me feel like a Simpsons fan for the first time in a long time. It has very minimal direction. With a bit more depth to the progression, this would have been a classic.

Freedom Planet: It's pretty rare for me to beat a game 3 times in a row. An interesting take on Sonic, especially improves on combat and bosses. Milla's campaign is like playing as Mario in Devil May Cry. Technically he could probably win by jumping on heads, but it's going to be a struggle.

SkyGunner: When everything is going right and you're popping chains to do huge damage and racking up cash it feels great. But too often you land a missile and it does no damage, and you get insta killed from behind. I'm sure it's possible to get good, but after a couple runs it wasn't clicking.

The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of all Time: If Tunic-like becomes a popular genre I'm not going to be complaining. Not as polished as Tunic, but it goes more off the rails. As a remake, I think the devs took a couple too many liberties. I slightly prefer the original RPG.

Keeper: It's like playing an independent film. The disparate creatures uniting in a time of conflict really reminded me of Flow. Don't expect a deep mechanical exploration of what it's like to be a lighthouse. However, if you're looking for a bizarre journey-like you could do a lot worse.
