Had a Final Destination moment today when I got stuck behind a logging truck, on an extremely curvy single lane highway with ZERO ability to pass for the longest time. I gave that truck plenty of space...just in case. Thankfully all logs stayed on the truck where they belong!

It's one of those days where I don't feel like doing anything. But, I still dragged my ass out of the house and walked my dog because she deserves the exercise. Now, with that done, I can be lazy.

Made a butternut squash soup for dinner, something I've never had before and it was delicious. Although, it technically wasn't a true butternut squash since I used a pink banana squash (yes, it's a real thing), which tastes like butternut but acts and looks like a pinkish spaghetti squash.

A bowl with a green leaf pattern on it is filled with an orange-colored butternut squash soup. On top of the soup are several croutons. A spoon is sticking out of the soup.

Just harvested a ton of cherry tomatoes from the garden. I cannot believe how many there were but also the fact that the plants are flowing again. We've had two and a half weeks with near freezing nighttime temps plus a heavy frost and yet the plants are acting like it's summer.

It's been a busy morning. Walking the dog, got groceries, did laundry and planting garlic in the garden. This will be my first time attempting to grow garlic, so I planted more than I planned to allow for any potential loses due to pests, diseases, poor germination or plain old lack of experience.

Had to return some movies to the library and figured while I was there I might as well grab some more. Ended up grabbing mostly documentaries plus one movie we will watch as a family this weekend. #libraryhaul

Oh, nice. How far into the series did you get? I randomly came across the series after finding book 12 at a yard sale last year, read it, loved it, and have been slowly picking up the rest of the series to read and enjoy.

It was -1C/30F when I got up this morning. Took the dog for her walk and now I'm enjoying the first cup of hot chocolate of the season. It's a day for staying inside, cuddling up with a blanket and a good book.

The painting is done. No more dreary beige bathrooms for us. I'm loving the light blue-purple color. Now I'm even more excited to paint the bedroom this weekend, I just need to settle on a color first.

It's painting day. After living here for nearly two years, we are finally tackling some overdue painting projects. Today, we are doing the bathrooms in a cornflower blue. Then, hopefully this weekend, we will be painting the master bedroom - color yet to be determined.

Made a pretty big pile of books to get rid of, I'm sure more will be added but for today that's good enough. Since I got them for free I will give these away, likely depositing them in the various little free libraries around town.

It's a chilly autumn day, and that seems like the perfect time to reorganize my books. My first big task is to tackle the collection of free books I got last summer, there are some classic SciFi gems in the stack but most of them are non-fiction alien conspiracy theory books I don't really want.

Somehow, today is slipping away. I'm not sure how it's 2pm already but here we are. Made another library run today and picked up an audiobook and a movie. I borrowed this audiobook a few months ago but the disks were in terrible condition, they have been resurfaced so should work this time around.

Woke up to a strange sound at 5am. It turned out to be a torrential downpour. Then my spidey senses started tingling & I'm glad I listened cause a drain near our garage door had gotten plugged and water was starting to come inside. Took me an hour and a half but the crisis was dealt with. I'm tired.

I'm running on little sleep because the last two nights I have stayed up WAY too late reading. My plan to just read a chapter or two of Tears of the Wolf by Elisabeth Wheatley before bed has backfired in the best of ways. I don't want to put the book down but it is affecting my sleep.

Tonight's dinner and a show was Fast Five paired with the Tuna Sando, No Crust (but I left on the crust cause I prefer my bread that way) from the Fast & Furious Cookbook. It's a tuna sandwich, it was fine but I feel that with some modifications, it'd be a pretty decent meal.

A tuna sandwich sits on a napkin on top of a grey plate. The sandwich consists of a filling made with tuna, carrots, celery, pickles, and mayo between two slices of bread.

Spent the morning outside dealing with more dry grass around the yard (we're in a drought so there is a bunch of it), and then took all that plus what we raked up the other day to the wood pile at the dump. I'm hot, tired, and quite filthy but I'm glad that job is done for now.

Yesterday was fantastic. We had an entire day of clear skies and no smoke. I spent so many hours outside enjoying breathable area, played with my dog, did some overdue heavy weeding in the garden and yard, and for the first time in weeks heard plenty of song birds.

Exploring All Genres @exploringallgenres.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

GUYS! I can't contain my excitement, it's raining! A solid steady rain. We haven't had a rain for like 50 days. We've had he odd "sprinkle" with less than a dozen drops at a time but this is a real honest soaking rain. If it wasn't so smoky still I would literally just stand outside in the rain.

160

Exploring All Genres @exploringallgenres.bsky.social · 11/08/2026

Thanks. Unfortunately they are progressing in a bad way, with lots of fresh growth in the last few days. But we have a small chance of rain over the next couple of days and I'm hoping that it actually happens cause that will help a bit.

We have had a slight reprieve from the smoke. Still need to wear a mask but it's the best it's been in a week. Got more grass raked and harvested a few bits of the garden. All the plants have essentially stopped growing/producing for the last 2 weeks which is likely due to the heavy smoke.

030

110

Exploring All Genres @exploringallgenres.bsky.social · 11/08/2026

Absolutely. I'm happy to stay inside most of the time (introvert lifestyle) but I enjoy being outside, even if it's just spending time in the garden or walking my dog. We've had a total of maybe 4 days of smoke-free time in the last month. And experts are saying the fires will continue into October.

120

Exploring All Genres @exploringallgenres.bsky.social · 10/08/2026

Despite the smoke, we spent some time outside raking our dry grass and removing weeds. Trying to do whatever we can to reduce the fire risk on our property but it's tough when conditions, especially the smoke, are as bad as they have been.

Exploring All Genres @exploringallgenres.bsky.social · 08/08/2026

Yeah, it's the same here. Did a quick grocery run this morning but otherwise I'm staying inside unless the dog needs to go out - she's silly and won't pee unless one of us is out with her.

110

Exploring All Genres @exploringallgenres.bsky.social · 07/08/2026

The smoke has been excessively bad over the last day. We even had the worst air quality in the WORLD last night. It was so bad we were 4 times higher (1200) than what is considered extreme health risk level (300). I know I keep talking about smoke lately but it controls our lives right now.
