NEW CAT NEW CAT NEW CAT NEW CAT I love it when scientists find a thing and the indigenous locals knew about it the whole time. "Yeah, that's a tilcayo. It doesn't have another name." Fortunately in this case, the scientists chose to honour that.
Screenshot of text from article linked in quoted post:

Nogales-Ascarrunz said, however, that local communities in Bolivia have been aware of the species’ presence for generations.

“This cat, they call it tilcayo. And when you ask, ‘Does it have some meaning in Quechua or Almyra and other Indigenous languages?’ they say, ‘No, my grandpa told me that’s the tilcayo,’” Nogales-Ascarrunz said. “This is a traditional knowledge that they have in the community. We want to preserve that knowledge and we didn’t want to give it another name.”

Wow, OracleSkydanceParamount. Maybe if you don't want people using words like "apartheid" and "genocide" about your business transactions, you shouldn't be doing business transactions with people doing those things.
Screencap from article linked in previous post: "After Ruffalo’s initial post, a spokesperson for Paramount said in a statement that the company is “troubled when antisemitic tropes are invoked in purported service of a business dispute. Words like ‘genocide’ and ‘apartheid,’ applied to a corporate transaction, aren’t just wrong — they’re a bridge too far, and they cheapen the very real suffering those words are meant to describe. This doesn’t deserve a response in kind — and to be clear, we don’t tolerate prejudice of any kind, against anyone.”"

Since a friend of mine on discord was like "that's not a ladybug, that's scary!" And I had to be like "right, because it's a ladybug larva, because that's what the chart is about." So here you go, everyone like my friend:

Oh! The company that made the non-tipping raktajino mugs for DS9 still makes a version of them, and they actually do have a sippy lid that fits down inside. highwave.com/products/hotjo Clearly, Chief O'Brien had *opinions* about open containers in working areas.
An advertising image for a blue, stoneware mug with a flared, conical base. It has a plastic insert in the top to reduce spills. It reads: "FEATURES
- Made from durable stoneware
- Comes with drink through lid
- Easy to clean
- 14oz capacity
- BPA free"An image of the plastic insert lid for the mug in the previous image. It is a cup-shaped insert with curved tines to either side, presumably to lock it in place inside the flared mug.

Also, was there some sort of factor that influenced how much wealth the lower and middle class had in 1985? Some sort of measure to make sure that the wealthy were still paying a fair share? (Chart is for returns filed in April 1986, so covers the 1985 fiscal year.)

I don't know why it's so hard for conservatives to even pretend to have American values. This poster is from 1949, and is just as relevant today as when it was originally printed.
A public service poster from 1949 that features comic book character Superman lecturing a mixed group of schoolchildren. He says in a speech bubble "... and remember, boys and girls, your school - like our country - is made up of Americans of MANY different races, religions, and national origins. So..."
Superman's dialogue continues at the bottom of the poster, below the graphic. "... if YOU hear anybody talk against a schoolmate or anyone else because of his religion, race or national origin - don't wait: tell him THAT KIND OF TALK IS UN-AMERICAN."
Below the dialogue in a blue box in white block letters, the poster reads "HELP KEEP YOUR SCHOOL ALL AMERICAN!"

I'm sorry @democrats.org, but alienating the working class and the left just to chase fence-sitter Republicans is NEVER going to work. Go stump in Rust Belt and Bible Belt, emphasize how weird, gross, privacy-invading, and rights-violating basically every Trump policy is. Stop chasing McCains.
Screenshot of a twitter post with a graph. Post by @abenanav reads: "This is the chart. She spent months courting Republican endorsements, riding the 2016 Clinton strategy to certain defeat. They risked it all to build a centrist party of suburbanites and college kids and lost. It’s time to move on but I don’t think the Dems will move with us."

Chart is a bar graph titled "How registered Republicans voted." It shows results from the 2020 election, 94% Trump, 6% Democrat, side by side with results from the 2024 election, 94% Trump, 5% Democrat.

Drinking @fridaytea.com's Magpie today. www.fridaytea.com/products/mag... On her suggestion, also vibing with the album that inspired it. The tea has a strong floral vibe, and is lovely with a little wildflower honey. Also has a tart, melancholic note that I can't quite describe. Very satisfying.

They don't care that they could simply house these people for that much money. The cruelty is the point.
Screenshot of a quote from the article: "Emails obtained by the Guardian show that Workforce Group revised that figure upwards even further to “include the pass through costs”, making the total $17.5m for three months. That is about twice what Unity, the lead agency coordinating homelessness services, spends on program services over the same amount of time for all unhoused people in New Orleans.

The price tag is also equivalent to a year’s rent for a one-bedroom apartment for 1,177 people, which would constitute roughly 80% of New Orleans’ unhoused population."

have you felt the primal call of the unmerciful sea calling you to strike down those who would defy you? no? well if you stopped using overpriced flower-scented body wash and switched to SEA HAG, you might.
look down.
back up. where are you? you're a siren, bare-breasted and shrieking as you lure the unwary to their doom on the rocks below. and you smell amazing.
what's in your hand? back at me. it's a vial of skin-nourishing ingredients, derived from the seaweed you used to strangle a hated foe. it does wonders for your skin tone and resilience, and we can all agree that we will need that resilience in the coming war.
look again: the seaweed is now a formal apology from the last man who unnecessarily tried to explain something to you.
