Sunday Reflection: Let’s Be Found on the Right Side of the Story There are days when the easiest thing in the world is to look the other way. To say, “That’s not mine to carry,” and get back to the comfort of our own corner of life. And I get it.

STAND IN THE GAP. I grew up knowing right was right and wrong was wrong. Every summer, I traveled to Mexico to work alongside good humans building homes & churches. I spent my time in disaster relief, helping those who couldn’t help themselves. It wasn’t about charity—it was about humanity.

Our Voice, Our Choice: Protecting Our National Parks & Public Lands! Our national parks and public lands are treasures that need our support. We can all make a difference through our voice and choice—because these places don’t protect themselves.

Heal & Hustle for Our Parks—and More! Right now, we are fighting for our parks, but this call to action applies to all public services that impact you—U.S. Forestry, Education, Immigration, and more. Our voices matter, and here’s how you can take action:

I am heartbroken. I am angry. And I will not be silent. Yesterday, countless Forest Service employees were let go. Today, it’s the National Park Service. The very people who protect our public lands, who dedicate their lives to preserving the places we cherish, are being cast aside.

🌿✨ We #StandWithTheParks ✨🌿 At Expeditions in Education, we’ve had the incredible honor of working alongside hundreds of park rangers, scientists, volunteers, and friends groups. Their mission has always been the same: educate the humans, preserve the stories.

A11 #ParkChat: We already bring this idea to life with our Virtual National Parks Expedition Challenge! Students and educators explore parks from anywhere in the world, engaging in real-world science challenges, virtual field trips, and hands-on activities that connect them to national parks.

Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Q11 #ParkChat If you had unlimited funding to launch a “kids in parks” adventure program, what would it look like? (Helicopter hikes? Underwater classroom? A treehouse school?) 🏕️🚀

#ParkChat Grand Teton National Park and Rangers Megan and Dyani are awesome and are so helpful with our educators there.

A10 #ParkChat: I’d take them to Yellowstone and start with the geysers! Watching Old Faithful erupt would be the perfect way to show them how wild and unpredictable Earth’s landscapes can be. But, I’d rather take educators than aliens—sharing these moments with passionate teachers.

#ParkChat- Our parks are living classrooms. A place to learn. Just filmed at Bent's Old Fort and challenged students to help them protect the adobe forts. Our students are eager and ready to help.

Q10 #ParkChat If you could take an alien on a tour of one national park to show them the best of Earth, where would you take them and what would you show them first? 👽🏕️

#ParkChat- just think! For 46 minutes, the craziness of our world has gone away as we appreciate nature and encourage each other to be good humans. Simple as that!

A9 #ParkChat: Voyageurs National Park would have a haunting, yet beautiful mix of northern folk and ambient sounds—loon calls, rustling trees, and the distant howls of wolves.
080
Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
A8: #ParkChat We also take educators, college kids, and park rangers to national park sites in the summer. #STEAMinthepARK. This is year 5. 40 parks over 1200 campers.

Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Q9 #ParkChat If national parks had their own theme songs, what genre would your favorite park’s music be? (Rocky Mountain = bluegrass? Everglades = jazz? Yellowstone = classical?) 🎶🌲✨

Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
A8: Also working with Acadia National Park and Schoodic Institute. We have taken over 240 educators and students there to learn about the invasive green crabs. They won't care until they are aware.

Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
A8 #ParkChat: Yes! We’ve led students & educators in helping with everything from tagging monarch butterflies to monitoring bats in Mammoth Cave. There’s something powerful about stepping into the dark, using echolocation detectors, &seeing firsthand how crucial these creatures are to the ecosystem.

#ParkChat- We have started curating our blogs, videos, and post-it notes and are now putting it into book form. Just finished From Acadia to Dry Tortugas and I was in awe of all that I learned in such a short time. Nature Gives Us Life!

#ParkChat At Bryce Canyon- we hosted a #STEAMinthepARk Family Camp and families spent hours getting to know trees. Learning from them, smelling them, tasting them (with caution), etc. Ranger Paula is a rockstar there.

Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
A7 #ParkChat: Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints—AND check your shoes! Invasive species like zebra mussels can hitch a ride in unexpected ways, so always clean your gear before and after visiting a park.

Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
#ParkChat- AND remember all 433 of our park sites have so much to teach us. From New River Gorge National Park and Preserve with Ranger Lori and Ranger Eve to the National Mall with Ranger Jenn.

A6 #ParkChat: Tracking pika at Rocky Mountain National Park taught me patience like nothing else. These tiny, high-altitude mammals are incredibly elusive, darting between rocks and calling out in quick, sharp chirps. It takes time and a keen ear to spot them,. Our educators loved it.

Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
#ParkChat- Not everyone can get into the national parks that is why we provide so many virtual opportunities also. Filming on the ice lakes of Voyageurs National Park again next and expect over 60,000 students.

#ParkChat- All of our work is FREE and is tied to the UN Global Goals. We can't expect our students to save the earth until they fall in love with it. Same goes for adults.

A5 #ParkChat: When kids get their hands in the dirt, they develop curiosity and problem-solving skills in ways that can’t happen in a classroom. Watching students build shelters, identify animal tracks, or even engineer solutions to environmental problems makes learning unforgettable.
061
Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Q5 #ParkChat How do you think dirt, bugs, and tree climbing help kids learn better than desks and whiteboards? 🐜📝🌲

Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
A4 #ParkChat: We already do this! With Expeditions in Education, we take learning outside year-round, from the Great Smoky Mountains to Sitka, Alaska. Whether it’s nocturnal animal studies, citizen science projects, or hands-on STEM challenges, we make every national park a classroom!
070
Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
Q4 #ParkChat If you could take your classroom (or office!) outside for a week, what would you teach, and where? 🏕️📖

Dacia Jones @expeditionsined.bsky.social · 06/02/2025
A3 #ParkChat: Did you know that newts in Crater Lake produce a toxin 10,000 times more potent than cyanide? Learning about this through hands-on science with students has been an incredible way to show how even the smallest creatures play a huge role in ecosystems!

A1: #ParkChat One of the most magical moments was watching the northern lights dance over Voyageurs National Park while leading a nighttime ecology program. The way the sky shimmered while we tracked nocturnal wildlife was unforgettable!
