Oh I miss the snow, I've largely been in hot climates my whole adult life but as a kid I remember the joy and wonder of seeing it snow and playing in it. I did get to visit a place with snow last year up in the mountains, but its not the same.

Now, usually there is some light, be it from the moon, nearby sources or even just light pollution and I'm okay because I have some limited nigh tvision but there have been rare nights where its just pitch dark andI see absolutely nothing, not even the stars and I hear shit.

I too feel more beholden to the night, evening hours are when I feel my best creatively when I don't have to fret about obligations the following morning and in the darkness I feel safe... unless I'm outside.

There is nothing saying you can't be both afraid and a revolutionary, in fact its expected you'd be a fool not to be. But Folks can't sit on their ass, do nothing because they're afraid, and still call themselves a revolutionary. Either do or don't, but if nothing else don't be a pretender.

Time to post it again.
A meme from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In the top panel, one man labeled "literally every company" hands a plate labeled "AI" to a man labeled "me." In the bottom panel, the man labeled "me" nonchalantly tosses the plate down the hallway, discarding it with casual disdain while the first man watches.

This is one of the things I found shocking about this administration. Like I thought Bush was gonna be the worst President Republicans would ever field. Yet he seems like a model statesmen compared to Trump. Like, I feel like everyday I am going a bit more insane...

I feel my emotional response to the news coming out of the Middle East is just... not in lock step with anyone else's. Like, its less moral outrage and more just tired and frustrated. Seeing it coming and knowing this will not end well...

these commissions are honestly saving me. we are having a very hard time financially and I can't take on big comms rn, because I work very slow and I have a couple of these in progress. but these? I can do them quickly and they are super fun to do so i'm not getting overworked.

It is, but I also imagine it gnaws on them. These can not be happy people who know love, joy, or genuine respect.

That doesn't absolve them, of course. At the end of the day, we all have our sob story, but we also choose how we respond to what has been done to us.

Hurt people, hurt people. Monsters make monsters. I really do think that humans are by default, eusocial creatures, and that these people are unnatural aberrations. Nobody ever starts out this way. They're turned into it.

To actually inform requires time and resources to research topics and learn the facts. To actually help people requires one to care, to commit, and to take risks for no real profit for oneself.

It's kind of daunting to think about. It's so much easier to be a grifter or propagandist. They just have to spout heinous bullshit. Either a script given to them or pull it right out of their ass.

Sure, but unfortunately, we do live in a system that seems to reward those willing to make immoral decisions in the pursuit of wealth or emotional validation.

The thing is, I wish this was just a right-wing thing. But I've seen folks fall for the tankie equivalent, and it's wild to me that the folks who fall for it don't realize they're no better than MAGA dipshits, they just sold out to Xi or Putin instead.

Well, why do bullies pick on others? Ill wager this is the same sort of emotional satisfaction, with diminished risk of a punch to the face and an extended reach.

I honestly don't think he could have or he would have. All he knew how to fo was attract some of the meanest, dumbest knuckle draggers and is mad thats what he's surrounded by. Like a comic book villain wondering why all his minions suck.

It's so convenient for them to just redirect the blame to women, queers, ethnic minorities and those seeking to reform or otherwise challenge the status quo. It's an old strategy, just more tools at their disposal...

They want easy solutions, and there are certainly folks eager to draw attention away from the systemic causes of so many problems.

In short, there is money to be made. Negativity drives engagement, grabs eyeballs, and gets clicks. There are legions of losers desperate to be told they're not to blame for their miserable lives.

Oh, you're not wrong. Not rushing to somehow absolve the Republicans. Lincoln would personally beat the tar out of every sitting Republican with his bare fists were he to see what the party has become.

Now it's the federal government, trying to impose some NATC bullshit with the general populous largely rejecting it. Which I think will take far less time to roll back once this regime is ushered out.

Fortunately, I don't think the backlash is *that* deep. Keep in mind that the violence and enforcement of Jim Crow v.1 was grass root and local, making it pretty hard to stamp out, and the violence ranged from rampant lynching to a straight-up coup in Wilmington, NC.

Well, the irony is that it was the Old Democrats that thwarted the total implementation of Reconstruction. Now I understand that the party and today's verson are not the same and that there has been a switch, but still, history can be funny.

So what you're saying is that the Confederates were right to try to break the Union? Weird take. If you want an example of a fragmented United States read up on Gan Columbia in which the attempted unification of Latin America failed.

We live in a time where folks feel that not only are they entitled to an opinion, but that their opinions are 1) The only correct one and 2) it is harassments and a moral failure to suggest said opinion is wrong. It is unfortunate that this is not merely limited to fandoms...

So while I may think of him less fondly than I once did, I would say he was at least a decent President. Certainly better than what we had before and better than what we have now.

I don't know if he'll wind up being counted among the greats like Washington, Lincoln or either Roosevelt. With that said was dealt a pretty awful hand, but played it well and largely successful with what he promised to do.

RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 21/02/2026
Morally though? I think he genuinely loves this country, understood the gravity of his office and the duties it required of him. But at that level, I think one has to start looking at everyday people like resources and currency to be spent. There is a limit to how moral someone can be as president.

RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 21/02/2026
With all that said, he was the best option placed before us. I think he did a lot to repair the damage his predecessor left behind both at home and abroad. Left the country better than when he found it.
100
RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 21/02/2026
But he was also a bit arrogant and distrusting of those with experience of things outside his wheelhouse, which lead a lot of unforced errors particularly abroad when it came to Russia's aggression against its neighbors or his handling of Afghanistan.

Eh, I've got mixed feelings. He was an inspiring figure, articulate finally someone who wasn't a relic of the Cold War Era. He was a scholar, a lawyer, a senator and an advocate for many and all that served him well.

I always wonder, when folks speak several languages, which one do they think in? Does it ever change? Can one forget how to speak their original tongue?

Providing alternatives that would help their careers as well as apply enough pressure to them and their backers to make pursuing this path simply not worth the trouble.

Ultimately, I think that's why trans issues are so popular among conservative leaders. They create this boogieman out of a small minority by exploiting existing prejudices, distracting their constituents while screwing them over.
100
RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
To make a big deal out of an issue that was frankly niche and only impacts a small part of the population. Like I said, easy issues to champion cause it didn't really cost them anything.

RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
Oh, 100%, horse trading is, in fact, more effective going hand in hand with applying pressure where it can produce results. Provides leverage and political capital.

RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
Problematic to be sure, but if one can't find a stalwart defender, a mercenary, which I feel most politicians are, is the next best thing if you catch my meaning.
100
RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
To the point that some politicians will say they care about an issue they really don't, I don't think gay rights were high on Obama's list, so its easy for him and careerist like him to adjust posture as circumstances require.
100
RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
I'm not perceiving you as combative. You've made very good points and speak from experience that I don't have, so I appreciate the discussion.
110
RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
Well, that would be the point, pressure them to withdraw support for anti-trans bills o4 even support certain legislation that would be a net positive for said community, and they can expect help on issues more important to their donors and voters.
000
RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
So, in this instance, find what special interests back a specific politician, figure out what sticks and carrots will work on them, and go from there. When the interests of their donors are at odds with their social crusade, their donors will always matter more.
110
RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
You're never going to see a social conservative in this country, at least that hates Trans folks, but will also fight tooth and nail for labor rights, environmental sustainability, or a robust welfare system.

Look at how these traditional family values type folks vote when it comes to taxes and regulations. Who do they help? Who do they hurt? It's no coincidence that all the traditional value types are also tend to be pro business, anti tax, and anti regulation.

RustingDragoon @exileddragoon.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
I think its more a matter of trying to understand what they actually want. Most folks who are pushing this kind of legislation probably dont actually care *that* deeply about the issue its just an easy way to pander to the base without pushing legislation that might irritate their patrons.

Between Xi's useful idiots (Maoists), Stalinist Bootlickers, and the other malignant edge lords it's become harder to imagine a leftist movement that isn't either just useful tools for the Russians/Chinese to exploit, bent towards despotism by default or otherwise self-defeating.
