91. Primetime (2026, Film) Robert Pattinson as Hansen-Ahab chasing his white whale of Lost is kinda awesome. Just devolves into a nightmarish fever by the end, it owns.

90. Dead Cells (2018, Video Game) It does a fine job blending two genres that really should just remain separate. Did all three final bosses on base difficulty, you could not get me to care about increased difficulty for some dogass metaprogression.

89. The Devotion of Suspect X (2005, Novel) What if Death Note was theoretical mathematics vs applied physics? It's actually so gas, Higashino's got the damn sauce. The character work is really quite something, coupled with an incredibly basic yet effective final twist.

88. The Black Spectacles (1939, Novel) My first Carr, it's pretty fun. The characters all fill their roles perfectly. There's one trick that I really love, and others that are just normal good. I got the who just by process of elimination from a narrative standpoint, but definitely not the how

87. Sonic R (1997, Video Game) It's fun, actually. Nothing mindblowing, it kinda feels like shit at first, and the cast is mad unbalanced, but it's cool for the ~1.5 hours you get out of it. Impeccable OST and aesthetic, Metal Knuckles deserves to come back some day.

86. The Citadel of the Autarch (1983, Novel) I'll get to Urth at some later point, but for now, this is my end. And what an ending! As just a book it is kind of bizarrely structured, but who cares, that first part owns. I was sold on BotNS as "Xenogears before Xenogears" and boy did it deliver

84. The Sword of the Lictor (1982, Novel) This is a complicated one for me. It's got some amazing setpieces (Typhon, the alzabo, the kid getting fried like a cartoon character) and tricks (skipping over Cyriaca's fate until later) but I also felt it was much slower and lacking in connective tissue.

83. Clue (1985, Film, Rewatch) It's honestly way funnier than I remember, and I already liked it four years ago. I believe Tim Curry could solve the Kira case. "Does the FBI really have a habit of covering up murders?" "Of course they do, they're led by a man named Hoover."

82. Boku no Natsuyasumi (2000, Video Game) They're calling it the ultimate vibe game. It does a lot of pretty neat things on its own, but I think more importantly is its ability to force the player to think about their own pasts and childhood during the long stretches of nothing.

78. Asura Girl (2003, Novel) The first chunk is really strong but, surprisingly, the more surreal second-half is where I'm left more conflicted. I like the ultimate resolution, at least most of it, but the path to get there was maybe a bit long. Well-translated though and worth a read

77. The Military Policeman and the Dismembered Beauty (1957, Film) I went through way too much trouble just to watch this. It's a fine mystery film. I can see how a young Itoi would misinterpret and misremember it years later and create Giygas. But it's nowhere as graphic as that reputation suggests

76. Star Fox (1993, Video Game) Sure, I wish it didn't run like That but it's still a great time. It's got the most important part, making the flying and shooting fundamentally feel good. Plus a killer soundtrack. Some bosses could use some clarity but otherwise, who cares. Grow up.

75. Zebraman 2: Attack on Zebra City (2010, Film) Now this has the sauce holy shit. No need to watch the first to enjoy this, it arguably makes it harder to understand. Absolutely incredibly on all levels of production. Zebra Queen steals the show everytime she's on screen.

72. Things Fall Apart (1958, Novel) I feel very silly whenever I read a classic well-respected novel and make one of these posts. What could I possibly say about this in ~240 characters? I's as good as its reputation suggests. Okonkwo's an all-time tragic hero, if only he weren't so misogynist

With that, my FFXI summer is over. It wasn't always the smoothest or most enjoyable experience but I don't regret the ~180 hours I spent with Wokemohg in Vana'diel. I'll come back to it, someday. Any FF fan owes it to themselves to at least get through CoP. But for now, farewell.

70. Final Fantasy XI: Rhapsodies of Vana'diel (2015, Video Game) It's a fun ending to XI and I really like Iroha. If you ask me, they should've gone all-in on the fanservice, require all expacs to be completed, etc. Let the other heroines account to more than a glorified cameo

Oh it's because they didn't have time/budget to elaborate on Hades and Ra'kaznar lmao classic
The mysterious Chapter 6 and the phantom "Demon Prison"

The Seekers of Adoulin missions end with Chapter 5, but it's been mentioned that there was a mysterious sixth chapter as well.

Saito: We had an illustration of the planned location for Chapter 6 that we were working off of, but the map had too many levels, so it ended up being too large to implement within the game given the release schedule. Although we made prototypes for some areas, we couldn't find a way to incorporate them into the game, so it just wasn't possible in the end. In regards to the story for the content, we created a portal following the Battle of Ra'Kaznar Turris that would transport you to another world. It was our plan to reveal the truth of how Hades became what he is, and the story would eventually lead to a final battle against him. Within those connected episodes, we planned to include stories such as the truth behind the Naakual, among others.

If Miyamoto thought it was already a problem in 96 I wonder what he'd think modern internet walkthrough/guide/wiki culture
Miyamoto: I would love to do that. However, strategy guides exist now, so the joy of someone discovering something entirely on their own doesn't really translate anymore. Everyone expects to be able to beat the game as a given. There's a massive dilemma there.
