This work was undertaken in close collaboration with the WA DEWR, Bureau of Meteorology and Water Corporation to ensure assumptions, scenarios, and outputs aligned with real decision contexts. This kind of scenario-based modelling is becoming essential to move beyond deterministic approaches. 3/4

Why are water systems so complex? They’re more than rivers and dams - rainfall, evaporation, land use, extraction rules, and infrastructure all interact. Hydrology modelling helps agencies understand whole-of-system responses. eWater Source helps explore this complexity: lnkd.in/gqagwPGw

Frameworks rely on historical averages, and in a changing climate, that approach can be limited. U/standing water systems as interconnected, dynamic catchments are essential. Decisions about allocation, infrastructure, and flows etc don’t occur in isolation; they shape one another over time.

Water systems were designed around assumptions of stability. The climate is no longer stable. Rainfall patterns are shifting. Extremes are intensifying. Demand is growing. Environmental expectations are rising.
