Ditto. Fun fact: I dated a girl who claimed Robin gave her aunt herpes. She was not the woman who sued him for that, btw…

110

Eric Vondy @evondy.bsky.social · 06/03/2026

Absolutely. He is perfect in this - as is Jeff, Mercedes, and Amanda. But yes, if the audience doesn’t buy Robin’s performance then the whole movie would’ve failed. Still feels like he’s been gone only a couple of years but it’s been over a decade

110

Eric Vondy @evondy.bsky.social · 06/03/2026

Hadn’t realized it’d been a decade since I’d seen it. Overall it’s still excellent but post MeToo the Robin Williams-Amanda Plummer parts felt a bit stalkerish especially where he tells her everything he knows about her daily routine.

Eric Vondy @evondy.bsky.social · 06/03/2026

A bit more about Lancelot. Bresson strips the pageantry and romance away and give us clanking armor and a horse neighing sound effect used multiple times a minute for the course of the film. We see jousts as an assembly line event. It’s a hard movie to enjoy but worth watching for the experience

010

Eric Vondy @evondy.bsky.social · 06/03/2026

#LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched Age of Innocence - Scorsese’s homage to Visconti is a masterpiece but it’s not for me The Fisher King - still holds up but is stalkerish by todays standards Control - excellent Ian Curtis biopic Lancelot du Lac - tedium is the point. Unique Arthurian tale

There’s a weird feeling of being an orphan when your parents die no matter how old you are. And feeling untethered. I was married with kids but I still felt adrift and unrooted. It passes eventually but I still their absence
