Our socials got the look ✨ But unfortunately, our website was still living in the past. It had been with us since 2017, so a little glow-up was definitely overdue. Check out our new look at evokeproject.org and let us know what you think! Big shoutout and lots of love to Josh for making it happen 🫶
You like the design of our posts?
Good. We do too.
Unfortunately, our website was still living in the past...
So Josh went on the mission to give our website the glow-up it deserved.

Mado Chantzi is a Biologist and a PhD candidate in the History of Science - see full bio in ALT TEXT 9/10
Biologist and PhD candidate in the History of Science, she explores how scientific representations in museum exhibits and popular books shape public opinion on human evolution. Alongside her doctoral research, she works passionately in education. Through her teaching, she hopes to inspire younger generations and dreams of a day when evolution is fully understood, finally ceasing to be dismissed as "just a theory". In her free time, she travels, watches movies or reads books.

Josh Stewart is a Science Educator - see full bio in ALT TEXT 7/10
Josh Stewart came to evolution education through an unlikely route: coaching cross country and athletics. While coaching, he completed a Master of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology and somewhere along the way fell in love with evolutionary biology. That interest in evolution eventually led him to the biology classroom, where he faced one of science education's most persistent challenges: how to help students genuinely understand and accept the theory of evolution.
He is now pursuing a Master of Science in Science Education, with a capstone project exploring which evolutionary topics are most effective at building real conceptual understanding of the theory of evolution. His work with EvoKE fits perfectly with this desire to make evolution accessible to everyone.
Outside of work, Josh enjoys running, cycling, writing, and seeking out good coffee and food in Warsaw, Poland, where he lives with his partner.

Shasa van Ravenstein is a Master of Science graduate in animal ecology and epigenetic inheritance from Wageningen University and Research, the Netherlands. He is driven by a passion to understand how evolution works. His research interests centre on epigenetic inheritance and microbiome–host interactions. He contributed to research at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW), studying the transmission of DNA methylation patterns in great tits and developing a grant proposal on the inheritance of small noncoding RNAs in birds. Alongside his molecular work, he has pursued field-based conservation research with the Zambian Carnivore Program and investigated dietary variation in brown hyenas in Botswana using molecular tools to characterise trophic interactions. He is currently looking for a PhD position to deepen his work on the evolutionary significance of microbiome-mediated inheritance within the framework of the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis.

Ramya Ganesan is a postdoctoral researcher from India. She is an experimental biologist interested in microbial ecology and host - microbe interactions. She currently works on understanding the evolution of gut microbial symbionts in honey bees and lives in Portugal. During her PhD at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany and the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology in Jena, Germany she worked on understanding the interactions between a darkling beetle and its microbial ectosymbionts. The colourful insects she has worked with often inspire her creative side. She is passionate about making scientific illustrations to communicate science and has worked on illustrations for a textbook cover (in press). When she is not evading honeybee stings at the lab, she can be found making cartoons, painting/crafting, singing Indian music, playing the bass or going on coffee-tasting expeditions in Lisbon.

Flowers exist along a gradient of either producing only ovules (pistillate), producing both ovules and pollen (binate), or producing only pollen (staminate). The degree and ratios of flower types can vary a lot within seasons, between populations, and across years
A graphic illustrating three main flower types: pistillate (with pistil, producing only retained gametes), binate (with pistil and stamens, producing retained and dispersed gametes), and staminate (producing only dispersed gametes). There is a box with a smooth colour gradient changing from orange (pistilate) to purple (staminate), with the "binate" label in between, to signify that these types exist on a gradient, and not as distinct categories.

While animals produce gametes through meiosis, land plants go through an alternation of generations between a sporophyte and a gametophyte
A graphic depicting a simplified plant life cycle. On the left is the diploid part of the life cycle (2n, sporophyte), and on the right the haploid phase (1n). Meiosis taking place in the sporophyte flower and produces haploid spores. They give rise to gametophytes, which produce gametes by mitosis. Gametes (egg cell and sperm cell) fuse together (syngamy), resulting in a diploid zygote (sporophyte) that will again produce flowers. Triploid endosperm arises from syngamy of a (diploid) central cell and another sperm cell.

The ocean is the cradle of all life and the place where biological evolution started to shape biodiversity, setting the stage for life on land. Most of the major biological groups that exist on Earth are found exclusively in the ocean! 💙🌎🧪 #WorldOceanDay #ProtectOurOceans #Biodiversity
A graphic for the World Ocean Day, featuring an underwater picture of a large sea turtle, a coral reef, many different fish, and other marine organisms. The text reads: Happy World Ocean Day. Life began in the sea over 3.5 billion years ago. For billions of years, evolution shaped the extraordinary biodiversity that still thrives beneath the waves. Many of Earth's major biological groups are found exclusively in the ocean! The ocean is the cradle of life and the foundation of life on land. Let's protect our ocean and the amazing diversity shaped by evolution across billions of years. The graphic also includes the EvoKE logo.

🧪#WorldEnvironmentDay Modern humans are the outcome of billions of years of cosmic history, biological evolution, and countless chance events. If Earth's 4.5-billion-year history lasted just one minute, Homo sapiens would appear only in the final 0.004 seconds.
A graphic showing a picture of the planet Earth on dark green background. The text reads: "World Environment Day". In a smaller font below: "Humans: a blink in Earth's history. A huge impact on its future"

Nature is queer 🌈 Did you know that same-sex behavior has been documented in more than 1,500 animal species? From black swans forming long-term male-male partnerships to female grizzly bears engaging in same-sex interactions, these behaviors are a natural part of the animal kingdom. Thread 👇🧪
A graphic on a blue/purple background with bold text: “Nature is queer”. Inside a smaller text box, it reads: “True or False? Homosexual behavior only occurs in humans.” The graphic features a picture of a butterfly sitting on a flower in shades of purple, and the EvoKE logo.

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈 This month, we are exploring the incredible diversity of life through the lens of evolutionary biology. From homosexuality and sex-changing in animals to unusual reproductive systems and anatomies that challenge our expectations 🧪 #PrideMonth #Pride2026 #Biodiversity #EvoKE
A graphic with text “Happy Pride Month” in bold white letters on a pink background. Additional text reads: “This month, we are celebrating biological diversity in all its forms”. There is an EvoKE logo in the corner, a flowing rainbow ribbon, and a rainbow-coloured moth.

What can you do for biodiversity? Support policies that promote biodiversity conservation and mitigate climate change, help control invasive species, join species conservation efforts, and inspire others to do their part! #BiodiversityDay
A graphic featuring brightly coloured photos of a dragonfly and a snail. The text reads: What can you do for biodiversity? The bullet point list has some suggestions:
- Support policies that promote biodiversity conservation and mitigate climate change
- Avoid introducing species into new habitats and help control invasive species
- Avoid buying products made from overexploited species
- Inspire others to protect biodiversity
