My government, in my name as a citizen, labels me insane.
A White House headline so obscenely hateful I’d rather not write it out here.

I got to help raise my state’s pride flag on my birthday! I am so cool.
Standing in front of the legislators’ steps to the Washington State Capitol building, from left to right it is Sawyer, Sam, and me, looking snappy in our suit jackets, to take a selfie before the Pride flag raising ceremony begins.

The edge of a blue house, or maybe more properly stated as the corner, jutting out next to a miniature maple tree, which contrasts against the blue paint with its own emerging red leaves; another early spring tree behind it is a bright green. The picture cannot show us the merry tubes of songbirds chirping to each other in the branches, nor render the fine light blue of the sky. This is my front porch and it is a little balm against the stress of my governments assertions of war crimes.

Good sized event for World AIDS Day in little Walla Walla, which we hold every year without fail, and with or without government support of this international event.
People attending a World AIDS Day vigil and talk in Walla Walla. A lit tree behind them stands in white lights, while the attendees are dressed in winter wear, while they hold vigil candles. A semicircle of people creates a centering of love and determination.

You have to have fun with your staff, because it is so rough out there.

It was a real honor to be part of the opening plenary at ASAM this morning. What a rough three months, but seeing thousands of providers working hard to help people with substance use challenges…I am so proud to know you are all here. We can do great things together.

I did that this week!
Photo of a sunny but cold day, with an irregular shaped lake bank, the morning sun glistening off the lake, which itself is surrounded by evergreens. A one tree branch frames the foreground.

I’ve been on hormone therapy for twenty one years this month. Happy Trans Day of Visibility. Remember, trans people are not your problem, fascism is.

Thank you to Senator Cantwell for getting the word out about why we need to save Medicaid! 24% of all Washington State residents are Medicaid members, disproportionately children. For my agency’s patients, 95% are on Medicaid. There is nothing about cutting Medicaid that helps people. Call your rep!

Teaching students at Whitman College about the utility of drug checking for reducing opioid overdose, with our amazing technician, Malia. Science is fun!

If young queer and trans people ask me to show up for them when their rights are being quashed, I do my best to show up for them. Like today.

The choices at my local drive thru baristas earlier today:
Three cups on a shelf marked Eagles, I’m just innit for commercials and Kendrick Lamar, and Chiefs. The cup in the middle has all the money.

Taking down SSA’s guidance on how to make a gender marker change but letting AI qualify as a prescribing physician under FDA makes me want to feed the AI docs false information so that they prescribe gender marker changes to everybody.
A draft bill text from the official congressional clerk with the inane and harmful goal of letting the FDA approve AI as prescribing physicians.

Today and always.
A mildly good looking trans man with dark brown hair and a goatee and glasses, wearing his usual sweater vest, at a literary convention, holding a footlong sign of white paper and handwritten in purple ink, which reads, “you cannot erase trans literature.”

This is a graph of participant-reported usage of naloxone and narcan to try to reverse overdose, as part of my agency’s prevention work since 2019. This last year 2024 has hit some extremes in reversals I didn’t anticipate for our rural region. It’s bad, folks.

My youngest often forgets his lunch box at school, so I put his lunch in a paper bag. Here are the bags from the last two weeks.
