Mackinaw City sucks, but there IS some cool stuff around it. Mackinac Island has some really beautiful parts, and some of the history stuff is neat, but it’s mostly tourist shit. Both are best in the offseason. Headlands Dark Sky Park is cool if you’re there again.

Stars fill the sky over Headlands International Dark Sky Park. Stones of a shoal into Lake Michigan are visible in the foreground, as is some of the lake itself. Multiple aircraft or satellites are seen as streaks across the sky.

I think this robin wanted to fight me.

A robin perched on a pile of split logs. It is puffing out its feathers, and looks like it may be damp from a recent bath. Its wings are back and slightly open. Is it preening? Drying itself off? Or is it giving me the bird equivalent of “come at me bro”? Scientists may never know.

The two additions and the walkways are already in existence, and have been for a very long time. They're basically demolishing the existing East Wing (east is to the right in that model and in this screenshot from Google maps) to build the ballroom. The previously-existing East Room held about 200.
