nah I used to have this one and it rocked weighed like 5 oz empty and the straps were on rollers with springs so that they retreated into the backpack when you took it off instead of drooping so tidy expansion zipper, stood up neatly on its own when you took it off whether it was empty or full
Zab backpack from 2001 designed by Phillipe Staark for Samsonite. It is a vertical rectangle covered in a heathery grey fabric with a tidy minimal handle at the top for carrying and expansion zipper on the side. When not in use it stands up neatly on its own and the straps coil themselves up into the interior automatically so it always looks snazzy.

New Year's card I made back when I had a letterpress studio and did such things, maybe 2012? Cherry blossoms as a symbol of the transient beauty of living in the present moment.
A linoleum block/letterpress version of the same Ralph Waldo Emerson text being responded to in the thread. The typeface is Gill Sans and the linoleum block is a scattering of cherry blossom petals on a pale blue background. The petals are white with subtle pink tinting that was done via stencil after the printing.

Man Ray, The Lovers (painting 1931, this print 1964)
art by Man Ray entitled The Lovers depicts a pair of female lips (presumably) wearing red lipstick and curved in an enigmatic smile. The lips are enormous and float over a landscape like a huge blimp in a twilight sky scattered with small clouds.

La Sportiva makes really good shoes for taking a long walk/hike in, too. I couldn't drive or bike most of the summer and put in 6 or 7 miles of walking every day and these were awesome. Bought them for the Grand Canyon.
Woman's shoe with fancy features that are kinda like a hiking boot (Vibram sole with deep textured tread) but kinda like a climbing shoe (flexible upper with asymmetric lacing system that hugs your foot).

Ah you don't know about Caganers! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caganer
Photos of colorful clay figurines in Barcelona called 'caganers'. From left to right we see Angus Young of AC/DC, Gene Simmons of Kiss, and David Bowie as Aladdin Sane. The same three figures but the Gene Simmons figurine has been turned around and you can see that he is pooping.

Reaper Man is my fave of the adult Discworld books and I just finished reading this book (Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt, by Ben Reeves) and find myself wondering if he too read and liked Reaper Man.
Cover of book by Ben Reeves; the title is Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt. The cover design festures the title and author's name spiraling around a very dark greenish-blue cover with additional little images of a rising sun, a crescent moon, and a white cat.

washing your face: quite similar to what Ernest Shackleton did back in 1914
Bar of soap whose wrapper reads Triumph and Disaster, like you have to make washing one's face into some kind of Shackleton expedition kind of ordeal before it's manly enough for guys to consider doing it

The designer for these was Massimo Vignelli, who also designed the iconic 1972 NY Transit map, as it happens.
Detail of the brightly-colored NY subway map from 1972, very stylized and elegant with sans serif type and surprising color choices

In case you needed more reasons not to use Amazon; this is downtown Berkeley today. So much for protected bike lanes.
Amazon truck parked in protected bike lane with one set of wheels on one side of the protective curb and the other set inside and blocking the bike lane. Not visible is the fact that it also cuts off access to the mid-block curb cut for wheelchair users.Amazon truck parked in protected bike lane with one set of wheels on one side of the protective curb and the other set inside and blocking the bike lane. the cover had me doing a double-take, having just finished reading this (which also was excellent and surprising but an entirely different book)
cover of a book titled 'the ministry of time'. The type is multicolored and at an upward slant from left to right against a dark background suggesting a night sky. The book Amy is praising has a very similar cover but is not the same book at all.

And this one, from the Berkeley Scanner. Someone quite obviously has no idea what the businesses on Hopkins sell/has never visited the area. Or perhaps the poster thinks only older folks eat pizza and drink boba tea? Who do they think the preschool serves?
I think it depends on what the small businesses are offering to their customers. A business that caters to those over 50, maybe selling different goods and services than those whose customer base is much younger. If many of the businesses on Hopkins have older, and possibly non-cyclists for customers, they may have to change what they offer, or move to another area, or go out of business. This would be a shame for many because it's their livlihood.

yeah I'm not seeing a problem here but then I like this sticker too
sticker features a slightly crazy-looking lady wearing an apron and wielding an axe. She's standing over a cooking pot and there are human arms sticking out of the pot and some ordinary soup-making ingredients (onion, tomato) on the counter along with a human skull. The text reads: if we eat just one billionaire the rest will fall in line.

my fave
In the manner of a children's book from the 70's, an illustration of a young boy wearing normal kids clothing lies on the ground inside a pentacle with lit candles at each point of the star. He is surrounded by children sitting on the floor with happy facial expressions . A colorful border and logo indicate that the book is part of a series called Activities for Children, and the title of this book, in friendly red lettering, is Let's Summon Demons.

Vik Muniz is great; my current fave subway art though is the Nick Cave ones. Times Square shuttle station, more than one location.
photo of tiles hallway underground with fluorescent tube lighting and mosaics of multicolored human shapes surrounded by multicolored outlines in that echo outward from their silhouettes like the colored layers of a geodeA detail from another mosaic rendering of works by the same artist Nick Cave. This mosaic is of dancers wearing suits that cover their bodies entirely and seem to be made of very long multi-colored fake fur that sways with the wearer's dance, amplifying their motion

@celestepewter.bsky.social Details (size, paper) in the alt text.
2 small handmade journals featuring salvaged materials and pages from Richard Scarry. The larger is 6 by 4.5" and the illustrations are humorous etiquette lessons about how to behave in a castle. The smaller is 4.5 by 4" and has endsheets featuring a pickle truck, and a ribbon bookmark.2 small handbound journals featuring B & W photo covers. The larger is 9.5 by 4.5" and has imagery from an Italian design magazine and the smaller is 7 by 4" and has an X-ray image of a human baby. The paper in the smaller is salvaged ledger paper; the larger is vintage typing erasable bond.

My kid and her girlfriend planted milkweed alongside our rented house and observing the lil guys is such a pleasure! Currently: 5 chrysalises, 7 inch-long caterpillars and one (that I'm aware of) that's maybe 3/16 of an inch long. This is from last summer:

Has your wife read this book ? 400 pages about the history of the pencil (yes, including Ticonderogas!). You can read it for free on the Internet Archive, too. I saw it at the library and started reading it kind of as a joke but it turned out to be fascinating.
The front cover of a book called The Pencil, a History. The author is Henry Petroski and it has an illustration on the cover of a yellow #2 pencil

Such a good book about the history of white Americans happily enshittifying their own lives just to prevent having to share anything good with people who aren't white

I liked this one
Book propped on black leather sofa. Dustjacket reads 'Blackfish City', by Sam J. MIller. The design on the dustjacket has visual references to neon signage; there's a city skyline, ocean waves, the book's title and a circular design that is reminiscent of NW coast Native American artwork with perhaps a salmon or a killer whale and a human person with some kind of spear.

Leftwing politics has never had a good track record of treating women as fully human, tbh. The women's movement in the US in the 60's came out of that.
Poster from the anti-Vietnam war movement shows three girls sitting demurely on a sofa under the words 'Girls Say Yes to Boys Who Say No' implying that these girls are will be the reward for young men who adopt the correct political position, i.e. transactional objects.

Reminds me of a Nick Cave soundsuit!
A person wearing multicolored striped tights is enveloped in a costume that makes them very tall and conceals the upper part of their body. The costume is made of long fur in blotches of various bright colors, and the person is jumping or dancing so that the fur flies around in all directions

If you're traveling by subway, the Times Square Station has the most amazing mosiacs of Nick Cave's art; I route through there every time I'm in NYC just to marvel at them.
A mosaic-covered wall stretches down a tiled hallway, curving away to the left. The mosaics feature larger-then-human sized images of costume sculptures made by the artist Nick Cave (not the musician of the Bad Seeds). They typically cover the body entirely, and feature accumulations of materials like fur, mirrors, buttons or childrens' toys, and they are designed to make sounds as one moves, and to amplify the bodies' movements in ways that are celebratory and ritualistic. In the mosaic, the translation into tiny bits of tile is spectacularly achieved, creating a really magical effect. The figures are surrounded by rings of colored tiles that evoke both energetic emanations and the layered colors in a geode.
