So strange. Vance and I are almost the same age, but I’m pretty sure the last time I made a “haha, but I’m not gay” joke was in high school.

Yup. Which, again, isn’t some weird quirk of the CCP. Every US jurisdiction I know of has a similar requirement (but for the US constitution, obviously). For example, here’s the oath one takes upon joining the Bar in Maryland: govt.westlaw.com/mdc/Document...

My pet Bad Idea: Offer to name the new state the Trump Commonwealth, or something similar, and let Trump’s narcissism drive him to support DC statehood. (“Only Washington had a state named after him!”)

Would Trump support DC statehood if we proposed to name it the “Trump Commonwealth?” He could have a state named after him! Not sure he could resist such a thing.

At the very least, buying her stuff is absolutely indefensible. Orson Scott Card meant a lot to me growing up, too, but if my nephew wants to read his stuff, he’s getting a library card.

One can certainly harbor prejudice against white people - but racism is a set of *institutions* and *norms* built to facilitate and enforce prejudice. We don’t have a set of institutions like that directed against white people.

Also, how much must opposing counsel hate their own friends, family, and hobbies? I mean, instead of doing literally anything that brings them joy outside of work, they’re doing extra work to inject transphobia into their pleadings. Just … why?
000
evilcloneethan.bsky.social @evilcloneethan.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
Setting aside the cartoonish evil of this thing, how would one bill for transphobic ranting? I mean, such rants have no connection to the merits or outcome of the case. Is opposing counsel just doing evil for free? If not, how would their bill their client in good conscience?

I worry about a repeat of April Glaspie’s warning to the Iraqis before the Kuwait invasion. She tried to warn them off; they heard a green light.

No one denies that helmets are a good idea. The point being made here is that an emphasis on helmets is a woefully inadequate and incomplete approach to bicyclist safety, and that bicyclist safety makes cities safer and healthier for all of us. We need policy solutions, not *just* helmets.

Also, the White House social media team weren’t bullied nearly enough in high school. I’m blaming the bullies for failing in their duty to this country. (Though, in fairness, how could they have known?)

But current-day Evil Clone Ethan? Hell, fight the fascists in copyright litigation, on the beaches and on the landing-grounds, whatever. We’re in an existential fight against fascism, because this is the stupidest timeline.
010
evilcloneethan.bsky.social @evilcloneethan.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
The Evil Clone Ethan of 2010 would probably say something like “well, this is disgusting, it’s almost probably fair use, and if we don’t want copyright law to eat the First Amendment, we should probably let this go. Besides, it’s not like the fascists can actually win in the marketplace of ideas.”

evilcloneethan.bsky.social @evilcloneethan.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
You probably won’t convince a fascist to abandon fascism by punching them. But you *might* convince them that being an activist for fascism is unacceptably dangerous. And I think that’s worth doing!

Good grief. I hate when we give our enemies *completely reasonable* talking points. At this point, “you can’t trust the US to protect you after you spy for them” isn’t just good propaganda, it’s genuinely good life advice.

It seems to be a Boomer thing. They love saying clothes or hairstyle are “distracting.” I’m always tempted to say “I dunno, if your attention is that fragile, it seems like a ‘you’ problem. Have you discussed this with your physician?”

You can (and must!) be quite firm with opposing counsel on substantive or procedural points that actually matter, but ad hominem nonsense? Pointless. And I’m sorry you see it so often.
030
evilcloneethan.bsky.social @evilcloneethan.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
Astonishing. Quite aside from the fact that this behavior is disgusting, it’s just plain counterproductive. I’ve never seen any benefit to being even *slightly* rude to opposing counsel. What if you need them to remain unopposed to a motion for extension in future, for example?

Of course, there’s a good argument that *every* warplane is made of screams, but sometimes that’s fine. For example, German bomber pilots probably died screaming after being shot down by American or British fighter/interceptors - but, well, it sucks to suck, Nazis. /shrugs/

What’s the most *unintentionally* disturbing museum exhibit you’ve seen? Not one that was meant to be unsettling, but one where the curators seem to have missed the horrifying point? Mine is the Enola Gay at Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy center. Displayed like a normal warplane, but it’s made of screams.

For example, we probably won’t see MAHA saying “real men eat swollen and dented canned foods” or “good mothers make their own fugu.”
010
evilcloneethan.bsky.social @evilcloneethan.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
The whole point of MAHA, so far as I can tell, is to avoid offending its adherents by telling them that any of their health fantasies are wrong. Thus, the only beliefs that would be “too far” for MAHA would be those that it is impossible to hold for any length of time, because they’re fatal.

This seems unbelievably creepy and tone-deaf to normal people, with a normal aversion to spousal abuse. But this guy thinks that spousal abuse is normal, and complaining about it is weird. Because he’s scum. So *he* probably thinks this statement is persuasive.

Flip off Heritage first. For all of Cato’s many many faults, they aren’t the worst of the right wing. They aren’t anti-immigration xenophobes, and they acknowledge that foreign policy is hard and complicated. They’re head and shoulders over Heritage. (Of course, you can still flip off both).

Maybe he was writing some sort of critique of OAN, and didn’t want that rubbish on his own computer? I mean, if I’d needed to do something with OAN in college (say, for a paper on fascism), I’d probably do the same.
