I find it absolutely hilarious that Little J (who's 14 and not so little) has taken to referring to @ryancordell.org research as 'dad's little essays.'

Late this summer I got to go into the studio with @pablohutch.bsky.social & our buddy Tim to record some tunes—and our EP is up today on Bandcamp! I feel a little weird as a middle-aged dude asking folks to listen to my band—but I'm pretty proud of these songs & would love if y’all gave em a listen

Carla Hayden is an inspiration to so many in the library profession. People outside of that profession probably don't even realize how much. She certainly became an inspiration to me. She will be missed as our chief librarian.

President Trump's executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum & Library Services would have disastrous effects for communities nationwide. We call on all Americans who value reading & learning to reach out to their elected leaders. Read ALA's full response: www.ala.org/news/2025/03...
ALA response to White House assault on IMLS
To dismiss the mission of an agency that advances opportunity and learning is to dismiss the aspirations and everyday needs of millions of Americans. And those who will feel that loss most keenly live in rural communities.
As seedbeds of literacy and innovation, our nation’s 125,000 public, school, academic and special libraries deserve more, not less support. I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!
A poster for the economic blackout on February 28. It is a big red Jack rabbit on an aqua blue back ground. It says economic blackout in hand done black type. There are two black speech bubbles. One says “don’t buy stuff Friday February 28th. The other says we have power. Below it says No Amazon, Walmart, target, gas food, gas. Below that it says OK small business, use cash. I heard the NEA is only considering proposals related to 1776 & the USA’s 250th birthday & I was feeling intensely patriotic, so I’m printing these really big posters inspired *directly* by the Founding Fathers The cut was carved from the masthead of a 19th century newspaper
Two large posters on off white paper with blue ink reading:

NO TYRANTS!
& NO KINGS!

In large wood type font. There is a large image cut of a wooden printing press with a banner of text above it reading “THE TYRANTS FOE THE PEOPLES FRIEND”

Also yall I may have teared up a bit.
“Why did you choose the iSchool?

Part of it was prior knowledge of the iSchool. My mom is also a librarian, and she went through the Leep (MSLIS online) program while I was in high school—I remember her sitting at our kitchen table working on her assignments. So, when it came time for me to apply to LIS programs, I remembered her experiences and decided to apply to the iSchool too.”

As someone who was a parent in college who at that time didn't have this type of space to go to (maybe UVA Library does now?), having these spaces available contributes to feeling valued and knowing you belong when you feel incredibly out of place.

Days like this -- Feels like -10 outside -- make me wish that my library had a coffee shop inside it or tunnels. I miss Northeastern's tunnels when it's this cold out. So do I fast walk (4 mins) to the coffee shop, or do I just suck it up and drink tea?
