Our experts have been part of a new report that shows that arts & creativity are crucial for children’s wellbeing, but funding cuts have removed this lifeline for many children growing up in disadvantage and poor health. Read more here. ⬇ bit.ly/4pWECvz #WeAreNCL

Last Thursday was our latest joint board meeting between our Strategic Oversight Group and our Know Our Impact young people's group (known as the KOI Group - a nod to their incredible artwork shown here which they created last year as part of developing their manifesto for engagement).
Image of artwork created by young people showing orange koi fish swimming in a river with grass on one side and a brick wall on the other. Words are dotted around the image to describe how young people might be feeling at the start of their journey to engagement with adult professionals, including misunderstanding, miscommunication, fear, ignored, lost, dismiss, disregard.Second image in the young people's artwork shows two koi fish swimming around each other in a whirlpool. The words perseverance, metamorphosis, trying, change and growth are painted around the edge of the pool.Third image in the young people's artwork shows the river flowing into a waterfall with bright green grass and red flowers painted either side, with the brick wall at the top having become a completed jigsaw puzzle to show how the pieces all fit together. The word 'communication' flows down the waterfall, with together, equality and respect written at the bottom. The words love, healthy minds, and voices heard are written across the jigsaw pieces.

NEW STATS: 1 in 9 children (1.6 million) are affected by the two-child limit. Government’s moral mission to tackle child poverty will make our country a better, stronger place, but families urgently need action not just words.

The commitments to improving support for children and young people with mental health problems in the 10YP plan and PM’s speech are welcome. The focus on early intervention is long overdue. The Govt must now invest in and reform children's mental health support.

Children in England’s most deprived areas ‘less likely to achieve development goals by age five’
Unicef UK found they were over twice as far from target of 75% of pre-schoolers reaching ‘good level of development’ Children in the most deprived areas of England are less likely to achieve good developmental goals by the age of five, according to the aid agency Unicef UK, which has urged ministers to lift the two-child benefit cap. A report by the UN agency mapped every local authority area across England measuring its level of deprivation and a range of early childhood health and educational outcomes such as oral health, weight and A&E attendance.
