1/3 Welcome to the first in our new series, Listening Discoveries. This week's invitation is a simple one: Ask someone an open question and give them your full attention.
Image Description: On a gentle blue background, with graphic, undulating concentric shapes in white, black text reads 'Listening Discovery #1 - Ask someone an open question and give them your full attention. Notice what changes when your goal is understanding rather than responding. Share your discovery.'

This Trustees’ Week, we’re celebrating some of the incredible trustees shaping The Evelyn Glennie Foundation. Thank you to our board for shaping a future where listening transforms lives. #TrusteesWeek #TeachTheWorldToListen Detailed image descriptions of the 4 images available in Alt Text
Frame 1: Yellow background with the words: Trustees' week. Thank you to our trustees! This Trustees’ Week, we’re sharing what inspires some of our trustees — and why they believe in our mission to teach the world to listen.Frame 2: A photo of Gem, who is standing and speaking at a podium, wearing a short-sleeved dress with a black-and-white abstract pattern. She has shoulder-length straight hair and is gesturing with both hands slightly raised. Around her neck is a white lanyard with a visible name badge that reads “Gem Fountain.” The background is softly lit with neutral-coloured panels. Below reads Meet our Trustees: Gem Fountain. “Parenting a deaf child taught me that true listening means meeting people where they are. That’s why I was inspired to join. It’s an opportunity to highlight the many ways we can listen to someone — and the transformative effect that has on people, relationships, and society.”Frame 3: A photo of Gethyn, a man with short, neatly styled grey hair and stubble is wearing a black button-up shirt over a black top. The background is plain and light-coloured, a simple, professional portrait setting. Below reads: Meet our Trustees: Gethyn Williams: “In a society where division too often dominates, I believe listening is one
of the most powerful tools we have
to restore connection and move
forward together.”Frame 4: A photo of Katie, a woman with short, straight brunette hair wearing a light pink top with a black and white leopard print pattern, standing indoors. The background is softly blurred, showing a modern setting with a television screen displaying a figure and some orange seating. Below reads Meet our Trustees: Katie Booth “My passion for active listening — truly being present to make others feel
valued and heard — is what drew me
to the organisation. Learning to "block out the noise" is a powerful skill. I wanted to support a local charity with the potential for such a profound global impact through the power of sound
and communication.”

A woman with shoulder-length dark hair leans forward, concentrating as she strikes a percussion instrument with a colourful mallet. Dame Evelyn Glennie, who has long white hair and glasses, sits in the background, giving guidance or instruction. The setting is a music room filled with drums and percussion instruments.A small group of people are sitting together in a circle, playing drums. Their hands are mid-motion, striking the drum surfaces. The atmosphere looks relaxed and cheerful — one man is smiling as he plays, while a woman next to him concentrates on her drumming. The drums are large, traditional-style instruments with taut animal-skin tops and rope-tied sides. The group is indoors, with soft lighting, chairs, and musical instruments in the background.

Image 2 - black text on a pink background, with a smaller version of The Foundation's logo at the top and centre. 'This Christmas, His Majesty the King reminded us of the profound power of listening. His speech eloquently reflected on how listening fosters understanding, repairs relationships, and builds trust in times of division and challenge. These sentiments resonate deeply with the mission of The Evelyn Glennie Foundation: To Teach the World to Listen.' The final line is in italics.Image 3 - an image of a woman striking a percussion instrument with a beater, with Dame Evelyn instructing her in the background.Image 4 - black text on a green background, with a series of vertical lines forming a pattern underneath, in the form of audio waves. 'The King's words highlighted listening as a unifying thread in the Nativity story, in communities coming together after hardship, and in the strength that diverse cultures and faiths can draw from one another. Listening, as he so beautifully expressed, is the foundation for respect, empathy, and hope.'
