Quote from Robin Kelley: "Without new visions we don’t know what to build, only what to knock down. We not only end up confused, rudderless, and cynical, but we forget that making a revolution is not a series of clever maneuvers and tactics but a process that can and must transform us."

Quote from Mejias paper on AI: "How is artificial intelligence reinscribing academic labor in ways that privilege certain economic interests? Who benefits from the creation of economic value that is generated by the insertion of AI in academia? And how is AI reshaping the relationship between teachers and students in ways aligned with these new forms of value?"

Quote: “Time and again we have been told that a dire educational crisis demands technological solutions that will improve learning outcomes. So, our question is: Why are we doing this again? What is the crisis? Where is it located? Teaching? Learning? Or society more broadly?” from Sonja Drimmer & Christopher Nygren

Quote from Jenny Odell’s book How to do nothing: “When overstimulation has become a fact of life, I suggest that we reimagine #FOMO as #NOMO, the necessity of missing out, or if that bothers you, #NOSMO, the necessity of sometimes missing out.

Do I want a summary from Copilot? Nah, I’m good. Irony.

Image with quote from Tom Alter "With universities as centers of learning, open debate, tolerance, and free speech, the possibility exists that students might become sensitive to the suffering of other people and question an economy based on profit over people as well as the role of the US military around the world."

Quote: Too many universities are proving to be ineffective and irresponsible stewards of enlightenment and academic freedom: surrender monkeys in the face of serious challenge.

Quote from Gill Hickman:
“...the purpose of leadership is change—change in human conditions, social structure, dominant ideas, or prevailing practices in one context or several.”

Quote by Sarah Kendzior “Sometime in the twenty-first century, a day with a fascist rally or a mass murder became just a day.”

Quote from Stephen Markley's "The Deluge". This new ideology’s most vociferous proponents argue that a collective human identity is the only way forward, that the next generation must understand how these imagined divisions, created barbarically out of thin air and handed down generation after generation, have led the human project to the brink.

Extraordinary piece. This hits hard. www.newyorker.com/news/essay/z...
I tell my friends that I’m no longer sure how anyone just drifts through the days, the months, without acknowledging the horrors. I imagine what it must be like to be able to turn off the parts of the world that unsettle you. It must feel like existing in an animated universe that adheres to cartoon physics: you fall from an inconceivable height and, landing, a cloud of dust billows up from the ground, but then you shake yourself off and keep moving.

Don’t dismiss the pain
Quote from Sarah Kendzior in Last American Road Trip “I have sweet memories of all these river towns—Kimmswick, Clarksville, Louisiana—like I do of Grafton, and I was furious at the dismissal of pain that often came from outsiders when this region faced a catastrophe: false assumptions that residents do not believe in climate change, that they deserve sneers instead of sympathy.”

Transformation is coming; our current system/civilisation is finished and attempts to prolong it will only worsen a crash (thus
bringing about a brutal transformation).

Quote from The Slow Professor. “Slowing down is about asserting the importance of contemplation, connectedness, fruition, and complexity. It gives meaning to letting research take the time it needs to ripen and makes it easier to resist the pressure to be faster.”

a famous single-frame cartoon by Sidney Harris from many years ago that captures what’s wrong – what is deeply unscientific – about far-too-much modern economics. In the cartoon, two professors stand beside each other in front of a chalkboard filled with complex mathematics. The more senior professor points to one part of the elaborate line of reasoning depicted on the chalkboard and counsels his younger colleague, “I think you should be more specific here in step two.”
