Illidan sighed, crossing his arms across his broad chest.
His muscles bulged obscenely, but Maiev kept her eyes fixed elsewhere. "It was merely a suggestion to pass the time," he said. "Would you prefer we discuss our differences, as the Archmage requested?"
"Absolutely not." Maiev shuddered.
They sat in silence for a moment.
Maiev thought about it. Perhaps the book was better than the alternatives - talking or silence.
"Fine," she said. She retrieved the book and handed it to Illidan, then set about removing her greaves. She left her breastplate on, unwilling to be wholly without protection.
"So, where were we," Illidan said as Maiev sat down beside him, "Ah, yes. The Warden leaves his cell - frustrated, burning with desire, unsated." He raised an eyebrow. "Sound familiar?"
Maiev rolled her eyes. "No."

Maiev rolled her eyes. “Of course you think that highly of your prowess. The author has certainly captured your boundless arrogance.”
“Perhaps,” Illidan mused, “such an encounter would have been enough to earn my freedom, if you had given me the chance. If nothing else, it would have been a welcome respite from the millennia of tedium and loneliness. Certainly preferable to polishing my warglaives alone, as it were.”
“As if I would ever offer you respite. Of any kind.”
“Well, it would have been a benefit to us both. Some much-needed release.”
“Speak for yourself. I would never come to you for…” the word was acid in her mouth, “Release.”
“Perhaps you should,” Illidan said. “You’re tense, Warden. I’m sure everyone on the Broken Shore would thank me for it.” He grinned. “The Archmage did tell us to get along.”
