if you want to be slavishly beholden to bourgeois moddlebrow notions of chronology, I suppose

It just has to be that he thinks a reasonable bowstroke can be sustained for 3 bars of Adagio and change, surely

On "dust book," the magnificence of the viola d'amore, and why most of the music I write down tends to be so barely there (and also Marco Fusi's beautiful little text from the booklet of the upcoming album): www.anothertimbre.com/dustbook.html

If you can’t plug your friends’ Boulez recordings today of all days, when can you?
Sheet music for Boulez Dialogue de l’ombré double, with Erik Bosgraaf’s CD of his own (authorised!) recorder version on top.

Yeah, there are at least a couple live versions of everything floating around … but if you ask me that’s not good enough for one of the large-scale masterpieces of the second half of the century! Might be a nice Mufab project, eh?

That’s a good guess. I was going to say Stravinsky until I realized it was a quartet.

RIP to Jacques Roubaud, whose “The Great Fire of London” is an all-time masterpiece, one of the saddest books I have ever read, said sadness conveyed almost entirely through a uniquely disintegrating form

Dalkey Archive is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of poet, writer, mathematician, and prolific member of the Oulipo group, Jacques Roubaud. We were fortunate enough to publish a dozen of his brilliant, and endlessly inventive books. He will be missed.
Jacques Roubaud writes an equation on a whiteboard in a classroom. In the top corner is his name, the year of his birth, and the year of his death.
