Eva Cassidy - People Get Ready Eva's phrases breathe where a speaker would pause; she rarely drives hard into bar lines or forces syncopations for their own sake. The overall effect is folk-like even when the arrangement carries gospel inflection. youtube.com/watch?v=bzLd...

I had anticipated another release from Eva's new album. Alas we'll have to wait. In the meantime listen this from a few years back. You may know that this Nashville based artist is Ray Steven's daughter. Her original melodies and witty lyrics are worth your time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Am5j...

Eva Cassidy - Danny Boy Eva's phrasing feels inevitable: long lines are carried without strain, yet nothing is smoothed into pure prettiness. The unmannered style is the quality that keeps her from tipping into sentimentality even though the lyric invites it. youtube.com/watch?v=oSKM...

How Eva Cassidy compares to Frank Sinatra “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “Cheek to Cheek,” and the big-band “At Last” occupy the same style as a mid-1950s Sinatra single. Eva’s voice supplies a more inward authority, less swaggering, but equally committed to the lyric. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtNY...

Eva Cassidy - Stormy Monday Eva delays her entry on words "Tuesday's just as bad" hovering slightly behind the beat. Silence, late placement, and a sudden dynamic bloom inside a single extended vowel makes a standard blues lyric sound intimate and introspective. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaMB...

Eva Cassidy - Fields Of Gold youtube.com/watch?v=8id4... Eva often delays the entrance of a line, extends syllables counter to the underlying 4/4 meter and begins phrases softly, building to the mid point and tapers off at the end. She breathes at unexpected times suggesting a confessional style.
