Can AI support PROM development? 👀 Heijdra Suasnabar et al. used GPT-4o to analyse free-text responses, identifying potential EQ-5D-5L bolt-on dimensions and comparing its performance against qualitative analysis done by the research team. 📚 Findings: bit.ly/4zkL4BB
Infographic titled "Putting GPT-4o to the test: AI-powered bolt-on identification". It features a bar chart comparing dimensions such as energy, fatigue, and social participation across different AI methods. Text at the bottom explains potential bolt-on dimensions identified by each method on a subset of 85 text entries.
Findings from Heijdra Susanabar et al. note that the agreement between large language models (LLMs) and human coding was moderate to almost perfect across specific LLMs. The text describes challenges in interpreting patient statements and the limitations of existing bolt-ons generated by LLMs without further validation.
Discusses use of large language models (LLMs) in analysing patient-reported text and enhancing the development of PROMs. It emphasises that LLMs should complement, not replace, human expertise and validation. Further research is needed to assess their effectiveness across different conditions and data sources.

Are generic preference-based HRQoL measures really worse than cancer-specific in cancer research? 🤔 Zhang et al. compared EQ-5D-5L and SF-6Dv2 against FACT-8D and QLU-C10D in 519 cancer patients. 📚 Read what they found: bit.ly/4x3ASf8 #HealthEconomics #PROMs
Infographic titled "HRQoL in cancer: generic vs disease-specific measures" from EuroQol. It contains two graphs: the left graph shows colorectal cancer ECOG status with d values and 95% confidence intervals for four preference-weighted measures, while the right graph shows colorectal cancer stage with similar data. A description notes that ECOG stands for Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group.
Findings by Zhang et al. listed. Four measures are mentioned: ECOG status, EQ-5D-5L, and QALY estimates. ECOG status shows strong discriminatory ability, while EQ-5D-5L is broad. There is moderate agreement between measures, with variable responsiveness. The study is cited at the bottom.
Discusses the sensitivity of cancer-specific preference-weighted measures compared to generic measures like the EQ-5D. It advises that measure selection should consider cancer type and context, with suggestions that instruments should be treated as interchangeable.

Patient-reported outcomes capture what clinical measures can't. The #EQ5D was used in a Phase 3 trial (n=13,299) in type-2 diabetes. It delivered a more holistic picture of treatment impact on HRQoL & stronger decision-making for regulators and payers. 📚https://bit.ly/4dUioXm

A day well spent 🎳 The EuroQol Science and Community Management Teams recently met for a Team Day. Filled with reflections, team-building exercises, and healthy competition in Duckpin Bowling, it was great to step away from the day-to-day and reconnect as a team 💚

Additional photos show digital bowling screens and the bowling lanes. The setting is a bustling and colourful entertainment venue.

Does choice of statistical method actually matter when analysing EQ-5D data in clinical trials? 💭 Yan et al. used individual patient data from 13 RCTs across a range of health conditions and compared four commonly used models to explore this question: bit.ly/4vY5a20
Infographic titled "How the choice of statistical method affects the analysis of EQ-5D data in clinical trials" by EuroQol. Highlights Yan et al.'s findings: strong agreement on treatment effects using LMM and GEE, despite Tobit and Beta models disagreeing more. LMM offers robustness and usability, making it a viable option in RCTs.
Infographic highlights that commonly used statistical approaches lead to similar conclusions on EQ-5D treatment effects in randomised trials. It also notes the importance of model choice when ceiling effects and missing data are present, supporting the use of MIM for EQ-5D analysis.
