i don't think it's fixable at this point, there's going to be screaming no matter what they do, and there's a lot they -can't- do without compromising more important things (ie. level floors on non-premade roulettes will never be a thing) and kit potencies don't exist in a vacuum

there's a single reason and it's unfortunately an extremely compelling one: the new player experience would be a nightmare if you randomly got synced into people with full kits. worse, the only way to balance it out is to make per-button potency decrease as you unlock more of your kit. huge no-nos

an opinion heavily biased by the fact i came in through RPE/I MUDs and TTRPGs rather than trad writing but also i fundamentally reject trad novelists who get bent out of shape about present tense. and philip pullman is one of the last people who ever should talk about "taking charge of a story"

present tense always unless the time progression within a post justifies mixing tenses somehow roleplay is narrative improv and every action taken should generally be open for potential response or even refutation - past tense implies closing the position as soon as it's made, and is thus unfit imo

not to bag on this scale in particular, it just makes me reflect on the weird sensibilities of XIV roleplay like. thought experiment: which is more damaging to lore integrity? alexandrian in a car doing pizza delivery in the housing districts, or replacing the time bubble with real time progression

maybe a 3 by any logical scale so probably a 7 to many people. modern XIV RP gets lore accuracy mixed up with power scaling or textual literalism less than it used to though! imo filling in blank spaces is orthogonal to lore accuracy. adding things is not intrinsically lore accurate *or* inaccurate

honestly i'd question any scale that'd put you beyond like a 4 at most there's not a lot in the way of majorly -redefining- anything, and i don't think filling in empty spaces counts as lore inaccuracy unless you're warping things to make it fit the game itself is less historically consistent lmao
