An LLM discovery of a mathematical proof or physics result which goes unvalidated by a human is the same as not having the result. LLMs are not “taking over science”. They are generating (in some cases) very well-formed hypotheses. You can’t build on a result no one understands.

Saying “my side has also done a much milder version of X” in no way diminishes the excrescence of X. I see it more in the spirit of a privilege acknowledgment. It also serves to rejoin the immediate “what about” on the part of an opponent. “Yeah, stipulated. Your guy is 10,000x worse.”

It is not dishonest to say that “democrats have used war in service of electoral gain.” But I’ll grant that it should be reasonably followed up with, “but not for a long time now, and they are by far the lesser of the two parties in doing so.”

And yes, choosing when to militarily intervene can count as “using war”. It may be entirely justified. But when I say, “using war” and you say “starting a war for personal gain” you’ve narrowed the point for your own purposes.

Using war as an electoral strategy is not new - both parties have done so to one extent or another, though it has been in recent decades the GOP which has leaned in to it. But Trump is just openly, explicitly attenpting to leverage bombing Iran as a tool to support GOP midterm prospects.
