Funny, suspenseful, well-acted, well-written...and a positive Christmas message promoting family togetherness. AND Santa is real! There is no shortage of violence, but it's clever and, dare I say?..."fun". Highly recommended! David Harbour as the best Santa ever.

Agreed. And I am WAY more annoyed than I should be by the people who say, "Yeah, but even though I know it's AI, it's still funny, so I give it a like." No, you just don't want to admit it tricked you.

I recently enjoyed two seemingly unconnected events: I watched “Casablanca” for the millionth time. And I saw the anniversary release of the Talking Heads’ “Stop Making Sense” in IMAX. Like I said, unconnected. So I decided to connect ’em.

What does that mean, "...from his prison cell"?

Those basic ideals of being kind to others are the core teachings of Christ and are how I try to live. Everything since then has been bullshit people have added to it. But if you need me to be the face of Christian Nationalism so you can tell me how evil Christians are, go ahead. Have fun, I'm out.

Beyond that, people flock toward different denominations depending on what they think is important...local charity...purity of health...whatever. I don't care about all the 40,000 variations as long as they aren't focusing on things like hating LGBTQ+ or forcing the 10 Commandments into schools.

Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
There's not an extremely specific set of beliefs. It's really pretty basic: Be kind to one another. Don't be a dick. Help people who need your help. Mind your own business. Protect people who aren't able to protect themselves. I don't have any authority to declare that, those are just the basics.

I'll never understand it. So many Christians I know and respect are equally confused. And angry.

Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
Because I don't want the Christianity that I believe in--based on compassion, forgiveness and kindness--to be blamed for all of the evil that people do, falsely claiming it was "in the name of Jesus." They did those things for themselves and then blamed Jesus after they got what they wanted.

Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
These days, not much use, actually. When someone tells me they're a Christian (like on their business card, for fuck's sake) I don't give it much weight. Christianity seems to attract those who's nature is to be judgmental, authoritative and excluding of others. That's not the way it started though.

Yes, I agree...the church as an organization can be as political and as insincere and as greedy and as wicked any corporation. These pictures prove that. But to say that the church reflects the soul of Christianity is, unfortunately, inaccurate.
200
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
The church as an organization is not the same thing as the actual faith of Christianity. The church, like any enterprise run by people, can be as corrupt and insincere as any corporation that has a Mission Statement. They put it in the employee handbook, but that doesn't mean they follow it.

Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
Wrong. Atheists don't believe there is a god. Many Christians might actually believe in god, but they think merely saying so is good enough. Saying you're a Christian without living a life according to the beliefs of Christianity does not make you a Christian.

Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
It IS about love and compassion, but those responsible for genocide are not following the true meaning and spirit of the religion. Hitler said he was a Christian, but he was not.
100
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
You asked what faith, then, do I think they are. I said they probably aren't any faith. That does not make them atheists, that makes them confused about what they think it means to be Christian. I'm going to leave this alone, because you aren't hearing me.
100
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
I'm not saying Christians are perfect nor am I saying that only Christians have a moral compass. I said people who claim to be Christians but continue to do un-Christian-like things are not really Christians, even if they think they are.

I used a Google search, because I, myself don't really know the interpretation of that verse, so I had to look it up.
200
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
No, because I don't have a negative opinion of atheists. I'm accusing them of not having any moral compass other than serving their own selfish passions & hatreds but claiming to be Christians--and maybe even believing that they are--because they don't know what it really means to be a Christian.

What would make you say that I would think that? I'd say every single one of those January 6 people were Trump supporters. I didn't say someone who claims to be Christian but does evil deeds must be from another faith. I don't know where you got that.
100
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
"...anyone who does not hate his own children cannot be his follower." I don't know that verse. Surely that is not the correct interpretation of what he said.
200
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
I'd say the believe in The Church of Themselves. I don't think they're truly aligned with any religion. And if you think I'm a Trump supporter, then I am a terrible communicator. I don't know of anything I've said that would make you think that, but I assure you I am absolutely not.
100
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
I agree 100%. Anyone waving the cross is surely NOT harmless. You and I hate the same people: Those Trump supporters online whose profile picture is a cross. The people in church who would disown their child if they came out. I just don't think of them as Christians, but I understand why you do.
200
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
I care because I'm going back to the original post: "Christians slaughtered Native Americans." Those people weren't Christians. The truer statement is, "Evil people claiming to be Christians slaughtered Native Americans." We agree that they were vicious monsters, but they weren't Christians.
200
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
If the headline of the day says that "Christians are down at the local library burning books about LGBTQ+" I would say there is not an actual Christian among them, no matter how many of them are wearing jewelry in the shape of a cross.
100
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
That is exactly the point I AM making. They've led crusades, burned witches and "hated f*gs" all while calling themselves Christians and using that theology as an excuse to do the terrible things they wanted to do. Them claiming to do it for Christianity was a lie. They were doing it for themselves.
300
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
No argument. I am not rationalizing or defending their actions. I hate their hypocrisy more than you do. I intentionally avoid any business that advertises itself as "a Christian business" because the more someone waves that banner, the more I assume they are not sincere about it.
100
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
I won't pretend to know the core teachings of Hinduism or Islam, but to say that "Christians are wicked" is the same as saying "Muslims fly planes into buildings." I wave at smiling families who are attending the mosque in my neighborhood, and none of them look like they would do that.
100
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
But Christians, like everyone else, make mistakes and do bad things. If a Christian is rude to someone in public, it would be as incorrect to say that "Christians are rude" as it would be to say "Atheists" are rude. Some are, some aren't. HUMANS can be rude, absolutely.
100
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
"Christians" who are intolerant of LGBTQ+ are just assholes who say the Bible gives them permission to hate queer folks. Those people are not real Christians. There are Christian churches in my area that welcome gay people. Those are actual Christians. That is the difference I'm trying to point out.
200
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
My position is about what people SAY they are vs. what they REALLY are. The teachings of Christ are about love, compassion, empathy and forgiveness. Anyone who causes suffering "in the name of Christ" is following their own selfish agenda. Their cruelty is not a Christian act.
300
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
People throughout history have done terrible things claiming to be doing it in the name of Christianity. But they were doing those things for their own selfish, hate-filled reasons and waving the Bible while they did it to make it "okay." They were not doing it in the name of Christianity.
200
Eugene Bilbo @eugenebilbo.bsky.social · 20/07/2025
This is true and heartbreaking. But I would like to fix one thing about it. The people who did all of the slaughtering weren't Christians. They were people who CLAIMED to be Christians.

An extended version includes two verses that reveal that the veteran in the song is also fighting a drug addiction he picked up in the service. I prefer the version without the two verses, because it makes the song more universally relatable to all vets who struggle with PTSD.

Today is National PTSD Awareness Day, so here's a haunting song about the lifelong nightmare that so many bring home with them. I only have a second-hand understanding of what it's like to live with PTSD, so I can't even begin to appreciate the internal battle some vets are still fighting.

I know this one-hit wonder might come off as a tad nerdly. (I mean, the band acts out the lyrics on stage. Guys, come on.) Still, I can’t resist the good-time vibes and nostalgia of The Kings. “Hey, ladies. You crazies. Well, me and Zero request you in the Mercedes.” Haha, okay, ya got me. I’m in.

Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart were together (in a band called, The Tourists, and in the other way, too) from 1976 to 1980. The band and the couple broke up, but, fortunately for us, Annie and Dave continued to work together and make great pop music for another 20 years as Eurythmics.

I've been to a lot of parties in my day, but I don't think any of them could have been called a wang dang doodle. I don't know how a party gets elevated to that status, but, for starters, I think the guest list has to include names like Razor-Totin’ Jim, Pistol Pete, and Fast-Talkin’ Fanny.

I wondered for years what this song was about. Turns out it means nothing. When they were recording in Nashville, Wings stayed on a farm owned by songwriter, Curly Putnam, Jr., and Paul wanted to write a nonsense song that was just for fun. Mission accomplished!

Los Lobos would make a good soundtrack for those old Max Fleischer cartoons (Betty Boop, early Popeye) where everything moved. As a car bounced along on rubbery tires, background objects breathed and pulsed to the same rhythm. This music sounds like that.

As Mr. T. might say, “I pity the fool that don’t know about ‘Two Steps From The Blues’, a classic album from 1961." Mr. T. might even pause for a moment and then opine, "And any fool who don’t know Bobby Bland is an American blues legend with a silky crooner’s voice, I pity that fool, as well.”
