New analysis alert 💡 🇪🇺 The EU enlargement debate has moved from “if”, to “when” and now to “how” - manifested in recent Member States' non-papers. But faster enlargement also raises a fundamental question: how can the EU preserve credible democracy and rule of law conditionality along the way? (🧵/1)

If an election were held today, 🇷🇸 political map would look very different. The Student List leads among decided voters, suggesting that 🇷🇸 protests and political mobilisation may be reshaping electoral politics in ways that seemed unlikely not long ago. (🧵/end) @crtaplus.bsky.social

Who do citizens blame for corruption? More people point to the political system as a whole. It's a reminder that, for many, corruption is seen as a feature of how politics works, not simply the fault of whoever happens to be in power. (🧵/4)

A year and a half after the protests began, public support has barely moved. Around six in ten citizens continue to back the student movement, despite months of political confrontation. Whatever happens next, it's difficult to dismiss this as a short-lived protest wave. (🧵/3)

Universities remain 🇷🇸 most trusted institution, while trust in political institutions continues to lag behind. It reflects a broader pattern: citizens haven't stopped believing in public institutions, they've become much more selective about which ones they trust. (🧵/2)

Serbia isn't just polarised, it's increasingly split between the democracy people want and the democracy they believe they already have. @crta.bsky.social latest public opinion survey offers a fascinating snapshot as the country heads toward what could be a politically 💥 autumn. (🧵/1)

Conclusions from Tivat 🇪🇺🇲🇪 - strong support for Montenegro's 2028 EU ambition, renewed commitment to the Western Balkans' EU future, and growing focus on integration before accession. Faster where reforms are delivered, but still fair, credible and merit-based. Time to move from words to reality.

While the final vote awaits the July plenary, the AFET vote sends a clear message: democratic backsliding cannot be ignored. A credible enlargement policy requires accountability, and support for those working to defend democracy and the rule of law. 🇪🇺🇷🇸 (🧵6/6)

Big day at work for Nikola Vučurević, head of the AP Vojvodina office at Serbia’s Mission in Brussels. Not diplomacy, not citizens' interests. Just roaming outside the European Parliament taking secret photos of Serbian students for Informer like an unpaid intern for regime media.

➡️ To truly support democratic change in Serbia, the EU should strengthen its ties with pro-democratic and pro-European political opposition and civil society, ensuring that any future government will see the EU as an ally.

➡️ At the same time, a wind of change is visible in the EU’s approach to Serbia, as EU institutions and representatives grow more vocal and critical of the country’s serious democratic backsliding.

➡️ While the continued protests calling for change signal a clear civic awakening, this momentum is being met with growing repression and deepening authoritarianism.
