I'll always remember I had to beat Wyrm 50+ times in Etrian Odyssey 1 to get the rare drop, and that's a 5% chance, the real problem is every attempt was basically a half-hour session.

The funny thing about the digital roots is that you don't even need to do them for most of the game because they're just part of the story, but it makes you want to stop and figure it out before the characters do anyway

I think the character stories tend to be better than a lot of farming games and I love the characters and story a lot but the romance is definitely hyper-minimal "you can just ask a character to move in with you during the postgame"

Speaking of farming games have you looked at Harvestella before? One thing I always think about is how regardless of which body type you pick, your farmer is FORCED to wear thigh-high boots with absolute territory

They've made nine of them! It helps that you can't really trademark farming or cute round cows. People maybe get too worked up about it though- "Story of Seasons" and Rune Factory also don't have much of the old dev teams anymore.

I loved the custom font in Etrian Odyssey 1, and the very default DS font in EO2/3 was fine at least, but 3DS allowing "standard PC fonts" for games was a disaster, half of the games on the 3DS look like they were thrown together in Powerpoint as a result.

JRPGs are always doing fussy little things like this Like everyone complained that the Octopath Traveler characters don't interact with each other, but you need to swap the appropriate characters into the party and press the "I want to read the conversation" button, and you never know when to do it
