The SRO move is designed to look plausible. Looks like another "NIH" statement passed down by the Trump/MAGA political appointees. (We hear that DOGE people are showing up at #NIH meetings, like Soviet apparatchiks, to monitor NIH leaders.) This move is to harm NIH. Why? See below in thread:

NIH is centralizing peer review of all applications for grants, cooperative agreements and research and development contracts within the agency’s

Proud to Stand Up For Science today in #ATL. Our call/response might need a little practice, but, to steal a quote: “you know it’s bad when the lab rats come out.”

We get news of an apparent breakthrough in pancreatic cancer — usually a death sentence, one of the cancers with the worst outcomes — and Trump and Musk are blowing up NIH and with it future cancer cures. The American people didn’t vote for this. Not even close to 49.8% did.

I wouldn’t be a scientist without the NIH SIP. I was a pre-med going through the motions but my summer at the NIH captivated me & showed me a different path. I was overjoyed when the first trainee from my own lab went last summer & also had a magical experience. This is a devastating loss

Reminder to NIH leadership: Giving Musk’s people access to NIH systems (like NBS) may well be illegal and you don’t have to do it. Your goal now is to DELAY. Public opinion is shifting. Do not let the DOGE bros kill grants and research by altering the finance systems. www.wired.com/story/...

DOGE Is Inside the National Institutes of Health’s Finance System
At least three people linked to Elon Musk’s DOGE task force have access to NIH systems that control budgets, procurement, and more, according to records and internal documents viewed by WIRED.

I emailed university faculty/staff/administrators a roadmap to support DEI through legal challenges, collective resistance, and institutional protections for faculty. The question isn’t whether institutions will comply—it’s who will fight back, and how! greencarelab.ucdavis.edu/how-universi...

I was in multiple meetings yesterday where faculty— thought leaders— expressed fear of giving nonpartisan guidance on things directly related to their fields of expertise. Everyone knows it’s only the second amendment that matters anyway, right?

As you see NIH restrictions and bans lifted now, it’s not a coincidence that happened after a big rally that got coverage all over TikTok and on Maddow. Trump is susceptible to public pressure! They want to do their coup in the dark. As we’ve been saying, science must speak to the public now. 🧪
