We’ve got the inside story of how Trump’s displeasure with seeing homeless people in D.C. became the first domino in a series of actions that culminated in the administration’s stunning decision to weaken the rights of millions of disabled Americans to live in their homes and communities.
nbcnews.com
How Trump’s homelessness crackdown became a sweeping retreat from disability rights
After issuing a memo making it easier to institutionalize homeless people, the Justice Department began abandoning cases protecting disabled people’s right to live in the community.

We’re not in the habit of recognizing celebrity deaths here at 925. That said, Dolly Parton is a national treasure and some folks here joke that Dolly is our Locals patron saint. After all her song “9 to 5” is our anthem. Today we remember all the love and kindness Dolly brought the world.
Tribute-style portrait of a Dolly Parton performing in a ruffled light purple blouse, arm raised and singing into a microphone, overlaid with the lyric: "You're just a step on the bossman's ladder / But you've got dreams he'll never take away."

This week marks five years since the 2021 B.C. heat dome that killed more than 619 people. This devastating tragedy was the deadliest weather event in Canadian history. And we know the cause: fossil-fueled climate change. 🧵 #GreenSky
Orange background with gradient effect. “IT HAS BEEN 5 YEARS SINCE THE 2021 DEADLY BC HEAT DOME” “Fossil fuel-driven climate change worsened this extreme event and will bring more in the future” Arrow icon in bottom right corner. Yellow background. “This week marks the 5th anniversary of the 2021 BC heat dome that killed more than 619 people, making it the deadliest weather event in Canadian history. The heat dome also cost $6 billion in human life lost and $12 million in hospital care. On June 29, 2021, Lytton, BC suffered the hottest temperature ever recorded in Canada: 49.6°C. The next day, Lytton burned in a devastating wildfire that killed two people and destroyed 90% of the village's buildings, as well as 45 homes and structures in nearby Lytton First Nation communities.” Yellow background. “ROLE OF CLIMATE CHANGE” “According to scientists with World Weather Attribution, the deadly heat dome would have been virtually impossible without human-induced climate change.” “150X - Climate change made the summer 2021 heatwave in British Columbia 150 times more likely, according to another study.” “2X - Extreme heat events like this may intensify twice as much as previously projected due to climate change, according to a 2025 study.” “15% - Upwards of 15% of deaths during the heat dome can be directly attributed to climate change, according to a 2025 study.” “31% - If the same event were to happen again, experts predict the number of fatalities directly attributed to climate change would be much higher at upwards of 31%.”
Yellow background. “ROLE OF FOSSIL FUEL COMPANIES” “The science is clear: emissions from individual fossil fuel companies — including at least seven based in Canada - enabled the 2021 heat dome. These Canadian companies include ARC Resources, Canadian Natural Resources, Cenovus Energy and Suncor Energy. To protect our communities, scientists overwhelmingly say countries like Canada must urgently phase out the burning of fossil fuels. But right now, the Canadian government is doing the opposite - by signing a deal with Alberta for a new pipeline, rolling back climate policy, fast-tracking fossil fuel projects, slashing environmental protections, and subsidizing the oil and gas industry.”
